I am using FSX Steam since 2024 Everything has worked fine until today when Trying to load the Game I was presented with about 50 pop ups telling me that a number of scenery files were no longer present Then when the game finally loaded it was just a blank Blue screen I cant anywhere no Aircraft are available or locations . So nothing . Is there any solution for this at all ? I have since removed the game and re intstalled it through Steam . It now works but non of my add ons are showing but I still have the 50 or so tabs which I have to clear before it loads Is it at all possible to get a clean intall from Steam which will clear all the settings rather than this one which appears to be a backed up version ?

The beauty of Steam is that you always have the ability to do a clean install. As you seem to have lost access to all your add-on installs anyway doing a clean install is not going to do anything worse than what you already have. Any add-ons you got through Steam will still be there and any add-ons you got from outside of Steam will have to be re-installed.

I would recommend the following steps to ensure a clean install.

1. In the Steam client navigate to FSX:SE in the 'Library' then right-click on the name in the left panel.
2. Select 'Manage/Uninstall' from the menu. Then let Steam do it's thing.
3. Once completed reboot the computer.
4. After the reboot open the Steam client, go to the 'Library' tab and scroll down to the FSX:SE entry (which may be greyed out to show it is not currently installed) and then click the 'Install' button to re-install FSX on your system again.
5. Once it has installed test to make sure it works.
6. If it works OK start putting your add-ons back in one at a time.

It's a PITA having to do a re-install but sometimes that's the only way to clear out the gremlins but the nice thing is it gives you a chance to clear out the stuff you never fly anymore and just keep the stuff you like.

HTH.

Hi
Thanks for this will this procedure give me a new scenery cfg file or should I remove it before before I uninstall it ? Will the new install give me a new default scenery library
Peter

It might be better to back that up as well as the fsx.cfg file just in case. They can both be found here: C:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX.

It will give you a new default library but if you place add-on scenery outside of the 'normal' FSX location (mine is in C:\FSX Scenery) then that will remain intact and you will just have to link to it later.

This is way easier that uninstalling/reinstalling:
To verify your game files please do the following:

1. Load the Steam platform and log into your account
2. Click the Library tab in the menu at the top of the screen
3. Click the List View from the view options on the top right of the screen
4. Right click on Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition to bring up a popup menu
5. Click on Properties from the popup menu to bring up another popup box
6. Click on Local files from the popup box menu
7. Click on Verify integrity of game cache from the Local file options
8. Wait for the progress bar to finish verifying your files. Additional files may download
9. Restart Steam
10. Restart Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition

or

1. Log on to Steam
2. Select "View Games Library" from the "Games" menu
3. Right-click the Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition icon and select "Properties"
4. Select the "Local Files" tab and click on "Verify Integrity of Games Cache"

As the OP stated he had already 'removed the game and re installed it through Steam' I figured checking the integrity of the installed files was a moot point as they were no longer the files causing the initial problem.

I have verified files on other Steam games/sims with success though, the system does work for some issues.
