Creating stationary Nimitz scenery for multiplayer

dswo

A few people have requested a stationary Nimitz scenery to be used in multiplayer flight. There are, as I see it, two things that need to be done here, neither of which I have tried before:

  1. Place the Nimitz as a scenery object.
  2. Create a rudimentary AFCAD, with proper elevation, maybe a microscopic runway (I don't know if this is necessary for airport recognition or not), and some parking spaces. If you wanted to get really fancy, you could add an ILS and some radio frequencies.
I'm hoping that one or two people who already know how to do these things will jump in at this point. Not having done them myself, I don't know how hard it is. First, though, there are a couple of questions that would need to be settled:

  1. Where should the carrier be stationed? I can think of two considerations. First, presumably you want there to be somewhere else, not too far away, that players can fly to. Second, it would be nice to have a place where the wind direction is more or less constant, so that you could point the carrier into the wind, once and for all -- and most of the time it would be right.
  2. Which of Thrawn's seven different deck configurations should be used? (See http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showpost.php?p=191975&postcount=1 for screenshots of each.) I would suggest #2 or T-45 Carrier Quals, because they have room for parking spaces. (Are these really necessary in the AFCAD? Yes, unless you want new players to spawn on the landing or launch decks.)

After dinner, I did some reading about this. It seems to me there are two additional hurdles:

  1. Someone (viz., Thrawn) would need to release his model as a scenery object.
  2. A mission would have to be created. Why a mission? Because the cats and cables don't work on scenery objects, only on AI boats. In multiplayer, the only way to share AI boats is a mission.
Where does this leave us? Orion Lyau has already created such a mission using the Acceleration carrier. See http://www.fswaterconfigurator.com/forum/index.php?topic=594.0. Perhaps he could be persuaded to adapt his mission for Thrawn's Nimitz.

FWIW, the existing MDL file(s) are usable as scenery objects. I have not installed the package yet, but I did extract it, start up Library Maker that is a part of Instant Scenery, added one of the ship's MDL files into a new library and went to some remote spot in NC and placed it as an object. No textures showing, as I didn't install the thing yet. But there was this BIG OLE ship sitting in front of the Trike!!!

But a scenery object it already can be. With the author's permission, of course.

i have made a pilotable conversion for Javiers Nimitz.

this has enabled the use of the object placement tool in MULTIPLAYER and SINGLE PLAYER

i can simply select the pilotable carrier and place it as a static AI object, using the object placement tool

all players in the session see it if they have the pilotable conversion installed, the elevator still works but unfortunately not the IFLOLS or Cats
(it's been converted to an aircraft)
, and it remains persistant until the session is closed or re-started
