Just a footnote, and for general interest...
I've used Logitech 3D Joysticks exclusively since the old Red Baron / Aces of the Pacific days; easy to get a new one @ Best Buy, affordable, and fairly durable.
But when one goes away internally, some VERY strange things can apparently occur...
I encountered a series of "anomalies" that I've documented here over the past few weeks that logic might attribute to Malware or viral activity... strange file disruptions, increasingly difficult CFS2 program anomalies, complete CFS2 failures.... weird.
Well, the cause showed itself last night, just before bed time - my joystick dang near cooked my laptop !
Good thing it was a USB connection, and not the old "Game Port" design - I managed to disconnect before the backfire went thru the entire comp.

A cursory autopsy this morning showed that insulation on the Z axis wiring had cracked and shorted, taking out the small PCB for the 2 other axis, and creating a "Cascade Effect" that smoked the controller and melted the wiring down to the USB plug.
Thus, I depart from The Norm and have ordered a Thrustmaster Digital J/S, due to arrive before the New Year. Be forewarned - ANYTHING can happen for the oddest reasons.
Murphy Lives !
