... and extrapolating from info I had on the US Army modified Mark series of bombs, & a nice description of the development of Polish bombs pre-WW2 (see www.emmasplanes.com), I went on to develop the Dutch VMNo2 series of naval bombs.

I'm not saying these are accurate models, but the size & shape are visually close to the (few) photos, so I think they'll do.

All multi-LOD of course ...

So that got me thinking about my projects that are currently "on hold".

I posted some screengrabs of Nebelwerfers firing in the screenshots thread. I think this effect could be used for Katyushas too - but no response or comment, so the Werfer model is on hold.

The werfer needed a tractor, so I started to raid some of the texture mods I did for "Combat MIssion, Barbarossa to Berlin", & tried them out on a few simple vehicle models - this sdkfz7 for example ...

I never liked how the SBX troops became grey sticks almost immediately, so I worked out how to reconstruct the LOD models better. In doing so I was able to improve the textures & mapping.
That lead me to experiment with changing out weapons & headgear, so I found I could develop German & Australian troops from the same basic model range... several appearances in screenshots but little interest shown, so they're on hold too.

So I guess my conclusion is - get involved in the discussions if you want to see a project progress :a1451:

Hi John,

I welcome everything you do for this sim.

As you're currently working on New Guinea, my preference is for objects related to that theatre. Thank you for the Aussie troops - perhaps a few of them could be wearing shorts or tin hats. Here's a picture of my dad at Milne Bay.

Cheers,
Kevin

Crackin' photo Kev :jump:

I think short sleeves & shorts might be beyond me still, but I'm sure I could knock up a tin helmet for some variety.

The beauty of the SBX originals is that texture repaints can change the appearance - I'm sure it's possible with just a change of headgear to make reasonable represntations of all the major combatants, so it's possible to develop MTO Italians, WW1 Poles & Frenchmen, you get the idea ...

Just need time & enough interest to hold my attention.

Don't worry, GMax work is only when I get tired of directing the dozers between Port Moresby & Kokoda ... The land & water class is now done, so it's time to get building/revising some airstrips/landing grounds...:a1089:

Hi Kevin
Great Picture.
Shorts and Malaria?

At Milne Bay the malaria epidemic was among the worst ever suffered by the Australian Army.

My Uncle Reg was at Milne Bay.

Cheers
Stuart

Hi Stuart,

I remember dad saying the malaria vaccine made him very ill for days, especially with the heat and pouring rain. He was living in a tent for 18 months.

By the way, I've been testing new Midway missions for TheBookie. Your ships look fabulous.

Cheers,
Kev

Great photo Kevin.

John, would you be interested in the odd Aussie soldier without hat/ helmet? Some prone troops behind a felled palm tree would also add interest. There was also a lot of use made of the 25 pdr field gun in New Guinea and the islands north of NG.

Having completed the inland landing strips at Yodda Creek, Kokoda & Myola Lakes, my construction crews have moved back to Port Moresby to complete the facilities there.

Fist up, Kila 3 mile - the gsl objects have yet to be relocated, but it shows the new Rhumba mesh world location quite well.

John,

Are you redoing the Port Moresby airfields by Pen32Win? Or are these FSX-style texture mapping?

Well, hello stranger!

These are completely new, to fit Rhumbas mesh. They will be a little earlier than Pen32win's, say early '43-ish.

There will be a slight hiatus in this project. Unfortunately my graphics card died on me last night :sorrow:, so although I have all the G2K work, landclass & waterclass work done, & all the airfields are completed too, I can't start the gsl work until I'm back up & running...:a1089::gameoff:

Well, my wallets somewhat empty :costumed-smiley-034but I'm back in the game! :sheep:

pics of the outer ring of Moresby airstrips ...

Now, onto the gsl work :running:

Yodda Creek is 8 miles NW of Kokoda. In the 1930's it was the site of some Gold mining activity, & had it's own landing strip. During the Pacific War this strip was deemed unsuitable for use, & the camp abandoned with obstacles strewn across the landing area so the Japanese couldn't make use of it.

Some WIP views of Yodda & nearby the grass strip at Kokoda.
