Curtiss Hawk II Question

Guys --

I downloaded a Curtiss Hawk II in Chinese Air Force colors. When I fly it, it shakes and vibrates. Is there anything I can do using something like Model Edit to get rid of this phenomenon?

Marc

P.S. I think I remember noticing this in KM's Fokker D.XXI in some of the Finnish missions.

Sounds more like a .cfg or .air file problem. Good news is it should be easier to fix. Bad news, I don't know what to do.

WH

Its not easy to fix without an air file editor like Airwrench or even the 1% Workbook/spreadsheet. Without these it will require a lot more manual tweaking/testing to get it right, because there are a number of control surface factors in the dynamics that can cause this, as they relate to airspeed. We could spend all night typing about it. Get the Donationware P-36 and use the airfiles from it, if no one else comes forward with a fix.

Does it shake with the engine off? At high speeds? All the time?

Some planes have very good flight programming, and will shake if flown too fast.

With the P-6E airfile, it shakes with the engine on, sitting still. With the original airfile and the Hawk III airfile, it shakes after takeoff at 70-80 kys.

Looks like i had the wrong plane in mind. Just took my own Hawk II up and found no shakes at all, even in a high speed dive exceeding the rated top speed. And i'm using the default air files that came with the download - no mods. This air file was done with Flight Model Workbook V2.82.99.

Typically, i fly my CFS2 in Medium flight model mode and i don't use the realityX.cfg stuff either that comes with all 1% workbook FDE's. These aspects may be part of your problem Burcham. Using the realityX stuff with a workbook air file can cause conditions that the workbook authors define as "realistic" aerodynamic behavior, like high-drag vibration at higher speeds of flight envelopes.

Do you:

*fly in EASY, MEDIUM or HARD settings?

*Use the realityX.dll in your Modules folder?

PS---are you in Columbus, MS or Stone Mountain, GA? I'm a Dekalb County resident too, Chamblee/Atlanta area off I-85

I'm in Stone Mountain.

I don't use the Reality files (not on purpose, anyway). Should I just delete the file?

Marc

I hove the reality file in my Modules folder, but I don't remember putting it there. I probably accidentally downloaded it with an a/c.

Marc

The reality.dll file in the Modules folder is stock - don't delete it. The sim uses it for default flight dynamics. I was referring to an addon file called realityX.dll. Comes with every 1% aircraft made by AvHistory.org. Its the dll which activates the aerodynamic, structural and mechanical realism built into their proprietary a/c. Other independent designers have frequently borrowed from AvH's flight modelling and used their workbook to build their air files. That's what you have in this Hawk II.

Let's go back to the question i asked before: do you fly in Easy, Medium or Hard flight model settings? Make sure you're in Medium and flight test again.
