David Mulcahy, a.k.a. "No Dice" has passed...

Hey gang,

It is with a heavy heart that I have to write that "No Dice" has passed away. I was alerted to the possibility that this latest surgery might not have a good outcome for him, although I was hoping for a positive outcome, and told him that I would work to preserve his CFS2 legacy, the Free Flight Site.

Rest in Peace, dear friend. He was a great friend and always concerned for others, including checking in on me. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers. :cower:

Because this site is so extensive, I would appreciate it if we would download and store a section or page in his honor. I will then work to consolidate and get his stuff up to SOH (some might not be feasible for reasons long-time members might know about) once I return from Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Please list which page you took and the filenames of what you downloaded in this thread so we can keep track.

Does anyone know whom the contributors were to this website, the platform it uses, and how it is maintained?

Thanks,

So sorry to hear of this. A true champion of all things CFS2, especially freeware contributions. :distress:

A very great loss to this community. Clear skies & fair winds ...

Very sad news. Wow.

Beginning to feel my age.

Thanks for everything, Dave. We will miss you.

RIP

MR

BTW Rami, if by platform you mean is his website built on on a PHP or HTML base, its HTML.

If you were referring to who hosts it I believe it is att/yahoo. Wouldn't swear to that, though.

Rami.....

.....I just received the same message and can't believe it! What a gentleman. In regards to your request I have the CFS2 planes pages 1 & 2 and also the Knifemaker (BR2) collection copied. I believe that all the authors are accredited by their names.

Fibber,

Thank you. I think uploading the BR2 collection may be a real problem if his website cannot be sustained, but let's get everything downloaded anyway. I am crazy busy this week getting ready for my excursion and really won't be able to touch it until I return from the Midwest.

Chris,

I hear you, but for an entirely different reason. At the end of June, I had good a friend who was a co-worker of mine for four years, and someone I knew for twelve, get killed in a road rage incident in the next town from me. She was stabbed in the neck and bled out in the middle of a busy street. Not only did I lose a close friend to random violence, she was also the same age as me. It's really thrown me for an emotional loop, and has me seriously contemplating my own morality and the fragility of life. She also had a son who just turned thirteen, and was a single parent.

When I go to the calling hours and the funeral this Thursday and Friday, I'm going to ask whether any of her extended family is taking him in. If not, I'm discussing with my wife whether we can take him into our family to avoid having him end up in foster care.

But back to the task at hand, it's very important that the legacy of his Vietnam project be preserved, because there's a heck of a lot of stuff there on his website that is not accessible anywhere else.

It would also be a way to preserve his memory...

I have been in the Grand Tetons the last 2 weeks without any cell or internet coverage. I just got to Rawlins and cell coverage and could get cell signal. I was stunned by this news. What a loss. He was a fine man.

RIP Dave!

Rami,

I have downloaded some of his Vietnam A/C and some scenery. I have not installed yet so some may have been updated since I downloaded.

Let me know if we can use and what to do. I will look to see what i have.

I have some Vietnam A/c files and scenery that i downloaded but never yet installed. I think still in zip format.
Let me know what to do, if anything.

Absolutely, Rami.

I think it is imperative that we ensure as best we can that nothing from Dave's website is lost.

You know, and this is probably way out of the question, but I wonder if there is a way to transfer pages from his website or perhaps the entire site- at least all the Viet Nam related part of it- directly to SOH as is? I know that FFS is html based and SOH is PHP based and there might be issues of bandwidth and copyright problems. But still there should be a way. I wonder if his family has any plans for FFS? I am sure Dave must keep the site on his computer there at home. I wonder if there is a way to transfer the website to a dvd or flash drive and send it to someone with the access and capability of getting it uploaded to the SOH web-server.

Cheers,
Chris

PS That is a very tragic story about your work colleague and her son. You know, the young fella could do far worse and probably not any better than having someone like you take him in.

Cheers.

Just looked at my emails an hour ago and found one telling me that Dave had passed away. At first I didn't believe it but looking at it carefully the penny dropped.

This is terrible news. Dave was such a great contributor to our community, always ready with advice or reaching into the Freeflight resource bag and coming up with the appropriate item. He stood out as a real personality.

My deepest sympathy to Dave's family.
At times like this I wish I could put a face to the name and personality that had become so familiar.

Clear skies Dave.

Reading MR's latest post gave me an idea. Could we look at how much it would cost to maintain the FF site as is and have a yearly appeal for contributions from our members? That way all links would remain unbroken and the site in its present state, address and form would also be a memorial to Dave.

Hi all. I feel very sorry. Dave was a good contributor and a good person, who cared and remembered everyone. Thanks Dave, and rest in peace!

Tu amigo Mario

A fine gentleman will be missed. Dave was always very supportive. My sincere condolences to his family and friends.
