DC-3/C-47 for FSX

I use the MAAM DC-3 with FSX patches.

Frame rates take a bit of a hit, but IMO it is far superior to the default, and has the fifth highest hours of all my aircraft flown in FSX.

MAAM had discussed remaking the DC-3 for FSX, but I'm not sure what the status of that project is.
 
I use the default DC-3 a lot for bush flights in Africa. It's not that bad.

I'm still waiting for someone to make a decent AC-47 Vietnam era "dragonship" for FSX! Well, there's always hope... :wiggle:
 
Well, it's already been mentioned by the MAAM-sim ports over decently, for huge improvements in flight dynamics, visuals, etc. There are some flickering gauge issues, and not everything is clickable in the VC, but it probably has the most flight hours of any model in my extensive payware collection.

Second, if you are going to go with the default (which is decent), why not pop over to dc3airways.com and download their tweaked and enhanced default DC-3? The guys over there are second to none in knowledge and experience in real life DC-3 and they have significantly enhanced the flight dynamics and realism of the default. Plus they have a wide array of useful panels (with custom gauges), and lots of info in general on both sim and real DC-3 flying. Also, you can find lots of historical routes and such to fly in your DC-3.

Ok, this is starting to sound like an advert. I just like the DC-3 and found that if you are remotely interested in it, you will probably benefit from checking out their site.
 
Awesome Foursome package is really good, nice range of varients and it's free so you can't go wrong.

It's on Avsim but their servers are down but check out the site at www.flightsim.co.nz
 
I dislike the fact that the nose textures on the Awesome Foursome package are misaligned, and they did something weird to the bump mapping as well. But free is free!

The awesome package is free, so that's the one I got !
Can't complain, enough variants to stop you from getting bored.

Download it and try it, if you don't like it, delete it. It will take you as long as reading this thread :icon_lol:
 
Regarding enhanced flight dynamics,

Alexander Metzger did some very nice airfiles for FS9 & FSX default aircraft, including the DC3.

These are available from

He does commercial FDE's for Dreamfleet (Piper Cheyenne, Beach Bonanza A-36) and Digital Aviation (Do-27).
 
Thanks for the HU on those Paularx. I just took a flight in the default Cub with his modded FD and its's made a nice plane even nicer to fly.
I'v always liked the Cub but it would always spin round on landing and strike a wing before. With this mod it lands perfectly now.
