DC3

LouP

Flight Sim Junkie
Does anyone have the JF DC3? I was taking a look at it and something about it just doesn't seem right to me. Other than that, has anyone used the MAAM DC3 in FSX and how does it work out?

Thanks,
LouP

I guess if you like DC-3's that seem as fast as fighter jets you'd like it. The VC textures are a slight letdown too. The nail in the coffin for me is the flight model though.

The UIVER DC-2 is a MUCH better addon, IMHO. It is more than a great deal at 20 bucks. :salute:

I have the MAAM version for years now, and it's one of my all-time favourites. Works in FSX/accel, I only have the issue with opening the radio stack view in the VC mode, it crashes FSX. Not sure what causes that, must be some incompatibility.
I compared the MAAM version with the JF FC-3 of a friend, and I must say, JFs VC looks a little sterile (no used look textures), and I like the animated pilots in outside view of MAAM much better. Of course, the VC of MAAMs R4D looks a little outdated with its photoreal textures, but I'm used to it. My friend also complained about problems with the JF autopilot, which I can't comment on because I have not tried it myself (according to the forums, there is actually an issue with it).
The glider addon of JF is a great idea, I must say!
Anyhow, I'll stick to the MAAM version and see, what Vertigo or MAAM itself will release in the near future (hopefully).

Cheers,
Mark

We'll be releasing a demo shortly, so it may be worth waiting for that if you are undecided.

That will be fixed in the upcoming SP.

Thanks

The Just Flight DC-3 is pretty. I've got the base pack, and I liked it enough to buy the expansion pack. You have plenty of airliners and C-47s to choose from.

It really depends on what kind of pilot you are. If you love A2A's B-17, and want to carefully monitor your CHT (knowing that your virtual crew chief will chew you out if you don't), then you may want to skip the JF DC-3.

If you enjoy the stock DC-3, but want it to look a whole lot better - the JF package may work for you. I find that I spend a good deal of time in it.

Oh, the DC-2 is also a blast. Not quite as pretty as the JF DC-3, but it has a whole lot more character.

Whats wrong with the default one;

Silly silly me :banghead: . I completely forgot about the default DC3. I haven't even tried the FSX version yet. I am so used to just grabbing my MAAM DC3 in FS9 that I forgot about looking at the default FSX version. Is it better than FS9's. (Talking to myself here now cuz I am just going to go try her out) :wavey:

I do not think so...one reason I'm with FS9.....but take a shot Kiwikat, stick a D/L one from FS9 one in FSX.copy and paste.and see!!...I do recall doing that....until I deleted FSX...but I checked my Sim Objects file I saved ..and Its in there! ..all repaints and upgraded..If it did not work I would have surly deleted the thing!..but I do not remember fer sure...HAVE FUN!!

My biggest gripe about the default DC-3 is the port engine. For reasons unknown the MS design team thinks the port engine rotates the prop in the wrong direction. This fault carried over to the FSX version as well.

Manfred Jahn's DC-3/C-47 FSX freeware (and perhaps a FS9 version at a later date) is coming along slowly, but nicely. Unfortunately, I do not think he has any intention of giving it a virtual cockpit.

Well thanks for all the info guys. This thread lead me back to the MAAM website and sure enough they do have a FSX update for their C47/DC-3 so I am going to see how she works out in FSX as I have nothing to loose. I have had a MAAM DC-3 in my stable as long as they have been around. I also noticed they will be updating their Avenger :).

Unless this is the promised FSX native version, it is a port over of the FS2004 version. You will have to limit your frame rates to 28 in order to perform manual start ups. Don't know why, but that's just the way it is. Please let up know how it works out for you.

The FSX DC-3 Awesome 4Some is a modification of the default DC-3 that includes 4 different models (DC-3 normal, DC-3 Viewmaster, DC-3 Cargo, and LC-47) Remodel includes higher resolution textures, unmirrored tail texture, and conditional appearance items. You can find it, fourth plane from the bottom, here: http://www.simviation.com/fsxvintage10.htm
