DCS and VR?

***FLASH NEWS......FLASH NEWS***
"
Hey everyone,

Earlier we mentioned that we have been working on DCS VR optimization. I have good news today! After much investigation and work, we traced the issue back to the terrain engine. We have since adjusted the terrain engine, and this has resulted in a 50% increase in VR performance! We will continue to test and optimize this further, but we hope to have this great improvement to you soon.

Thanks

Wow! This is amazing news. VR performance is already very good in DCS World, but I do still use the simple VR settings with just the resolution turned up. A 50% performance increase is huge.

I wonder if any other sims can use this information and apply it for an increase in performance in VR. I know they are different terrain engines, but if there was some commonality between engines and some way to apply it P3D and XP11 could both benefit from an increase in VR performance.

As an aside, tonight I was trying out VR in P3DV3.4 on my new PC for the second time, and the default VR was horrible. Lots of shimmering, 15 FPS when set at 30 and poor resolution. I installed FlyInside P3D Pro, which I purchased long ago, and wow, what a difference that made. I'm not sure if the program itself has improved or if it just works better on my new PC. I downloaded and installed the latest version which was 1.96. I did the same test as the default P3DV3 VR and used the Captain Sim 727 from Taxi2Gate's LZIB Bratislava. With FlyInside I got a smooth 50FPS (converted to 90 in the program), the resolution was amazing and there was no shimmering. This was all straight out of the box, with no adjustments made. I don't remember FlyInside ever working so well on my old PC, so I suppose it just works better with newer hardware. BTW I now have an i9-9900k (stock speed) and RTX2080Ti.

I just completed a full flight from Bratislava to Zagreb, gate to gate, in VR and the whole experience was awesome. I now need to try some more full flights in VR, something I had never done much of with any version of FSX or P3D.

A word from Wags about VR Optimization
https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=3878128

""Also, I’m sure you’re asking: where is the VR performance boost!? It’s coming. The VR optimization of the Caucasus map is done, and now the team is optimizing the other maps for improved VR performance. Once done and tested, we’ll release this in a future Open Beta.

***Mini update***

"
Hey everyone, a little update. The map VR optimization changes are being integrated into the next DCS World version: 2.5.5. This will be for both the Caucasus and Persian Gulf maps. Nevada map VR optimization will come after.

2.5.5 will not be this week, but not too much longer now. As a few version, it's not as simple as a regular Open Beta, there needs to be a lot more testing and checking to make sure that all 3rd party modules are working.

Thanks"

That's great news - I was using an Nvidia GTX970, but now a GTX 1070 - can't afford the 1080, but the 1070 yields pretty good results already, so looking forwards to the optimisation with baited breath! :applause:

***Small update from Wags on Open Beta VR improvements***

Dear all,

Sadly, we still have a 3rd party that has not updated their code to work within the 2.5.5 branch. To release 2.5.5 today would mean their module would not function within DCS World. We very much hope to see this resolved next week. If it cannot be, we will still release version 2.5.5 next week, and the 3rd party module will still be playable in the release version.

Thanks"
