DCS Development Reports

Hello Scott,This was a big surprise to me as I thought this was in The RAZBAM Pipeline as they've done one for FSX? Anyway another Forrestal Carrier Capable Naval Jet is most welcome.

I built a 1/72 model kit of the A7 when I was a kid and I'm sure it was carrying about 20 500lb bombs! Looking forward to flying that little but lethal bomb truck!!

3D Scanning
Development Report
We have started the improvement of all our human models in DCS World. The first step is to create a reference database containing different parts of the human body and prepare prototypes that will be used for all models. The video shows how we started observing the differences in our current models and note areas of improvements. The upgrades will be visible both in geometry and skinning throughout DCS World.
The picture with one hand is received from the scanner and drastically improves lead time for model creation. The other pictures compare new and old models.

Guns, Guns, Guns
Development Report

With all the work going on with the new damage model, and following a recent post by one of our dedicated community members pertaining to ballistics and round drag we decided to check most of the guns and ammo in the sim.
We detected an excessive amount of round dispersion due to improper gun installation characteristics which impacted dispersion values in most of our WWII aircraft. We have corrected the rigidity of these installation values and as a result, have seen a drop in dispersion values on all WWII aircraft of approximately 1.5 times.
The P-51D and upcoming P-47 are also receiving some extra TLC. We will be using a combat mix of M8 API and M20 API/T belts. This will better match historical data and our upcoming visual effects upgrade.
The Spitfire as well will benefit from improved ballistics for a more accurate match to historical documents such as type designation and firing tables.
The GAU-8 isn’t getting left out either. We updated our information from General Electric which diminishes round dispersion by approximately 1.5 times. We know that many in the community have been complaining about this for some time and with this latest data backed correction the Hog will deliver even more tank-busting fun to our faithful users. Thank you again for persisting.
While no dispersion issues were found with the M61 we will be updating the PGU type shells with improved ballistics. This should affect any aircraft using these types of shells, including the F-16C.
Last, but not least, the F-86F is also currently under review, so far we have found possible issues with barrel heating and cooling. We will continue to make changes as needed.

Eurofighter on the horizon
Introducing TrueGrit Virtual Technologies

We are thrilled to announce that the Eurofighter Typhoon is on its way to DCS World!

To bring this advanced fighter to DCS, a brand new company, TrueGrit Virtual Technologies has been founded specifically for the challenge. The TrueGrit development team is led by Gero Finke, a highly experienced former Typhoon Instructor Pilot with 15 years experience on type and an additional 10 years as a weapons instructor on the mighty F-4 Phantom – a total of 3’000 hours of military jet flying. Gero was station commander at one of the world’s most famous fighter bases of all time, the 71st Tactical Fighter Wing at Wittmundhaven, Germany, formally known as the Red Baron´s legendary “Jagdgeschwader Richthofen” and Squadron Commander at Jagdgeschwader 73, Steinhoff. Today, Gero’s dev team has substantial programming and design experience. This professionalism combined with Gero’s exceptional active-duty and operational knowledge is very promising for DCS and the future of this exciting new module.

Their 3D designer has a background working with Airbus, Grob, Eurocopter, Luftwaffe and also with Heatblur on their DCS: F-14 project.

The lead coder has had substantial experience with various simulator projects, both in the air and ground combat realm. Two other coders with Ph.D.’s in physics and mathematics will lead the programming of the Typhoon’s extremely complex flight model.

In addition to Gero’s personal input and contribution to this highly detailed simulation, the team has excellent access to a number of Subject Matter Experts such as former instructor pilots, weapon instructors and maintenance personnel.

Their team size stands at 15 today but they are always on the lookout for experienced coders to continue to grow. See more development screenshots below.

DCS: Mil Mi-24P Hind
Development Report

The DCS: Mil Mi-24P Hind continues to make steady progress. The cockpit is currently in development and being added to the airframe with basic functionality implementation to follow. We expect to see the start of the integration of flight dynamics and power plant from mid-April.

LOL!! Finally a Eurofighter that will fly, unlike the real thing which spends most of its time on the ground...

LOL!! Finally a Eurofighter that will fly, unlike the real thing which spends most of its time on the ground...

Priller

maybe that's the fidelity we'll get... sometimes EuFi will fly, sometimes you'll get in the thing and it'll go tech and not fly :biggrin-new:

kinda looking forwards to it though! (though i'm still waiting on my baby the F-4E! and the F-16 is helping alleviate that to a degree)

From The C E O
"* Dear Community, dear Friends,

We hope you are well and that you and your families are safe and not too distressed in these tough times. We also hope you enjoyed last month’s “Stay at Home” event. It was a new and refreshing adventure we trust was well received by the community as we registered a very large number of users who took advantage of the free to fly opportunities, despite the rather short 2-day time limits for each module.
In the light of the ongoing difficulties we are all facing, we have decided to go the extra mile and will be announcing a similar but enhanced event in the very near future. We really hope it will meet with your approval and enthusiasm.
Thank you again for all your comments I received following my previous post on Reddit/Hoggit.
Your remarks were extremely helpful, insightful and encouraging too.
Today I would like to share some information pertaining to the DCS: Supercarrier early access release date, the F/A-18C Hornet and F-16C Viper roadmaps and our updated pipeline.
DCS: Supercarrier
We have been working hard towards the announced release date of April 15th. Sadly, we were unable to work through all the issues in order to ensure a satisfactory Early Access release.
The main “no-go” for me and I am sure for you too, is Multiplayer behavior which still suffers from certain non-game breaker bugs which were confirmed on Saturday, April 11th. Today we have a new plan and will be working overtime to bring you this long-awaited product. I actively follow the threads, in particular “April 15th 2020” and I understand how disappointed you are, but I am confident you will agree that Multiplayer needs a bit more love.
DCS: F/A-18C Hornet
Since my previous post we delivered 4 FLIR pointing modes which were a substantial task to develop. We have prepared a bug fix update for this week and we are working to deliver the following features by the end of April:

  • Completion of the Litening Targeting Pod
  • Dynamic launch zones and AUTO LOFT mode for JDAM
  • AG radar: Real Beam Ground Map (MAP)
  • SLAM air-to-surface missile
During the spring and summer, we plan to work on a range of Flight Model enhancements that include Automatic Carrier Landing System (ACLS), autopilot modes, and about 30 related features and issues.
DCS: F-16C Viper
For the last two months, we have mainly focused on bug fixing and small improvements. A new developer joined us recently and is working hard on the AGM-65D Maverick air-to-surface missile, which we hope he will be delivering by the end of April.
We will be increasing our efforts on the navigation system starting in May. Improvements will include the update of the steerpoint system permitting in-game mission planning and cursor zero (CZ) will also be added.
Our general roadmap hasn’t changed substantially since February 20th:

A very generous offer by ED. I have a lot, but not all modules. I might try out the Harrier during this time and perhaps buy it. I do have quite a few modules, so struggle to find the time to use all of them.

I see the Super Carrier is discounted by 50% also. I already pre purchased, but good to see that is included. Some people will be getting some bargains with some very recent modules at 50% off, not to mention the free use for a month.

August 2020
Dear Fighter Pilot, Partners and Friends,
pilotfly.gif

This week we are excited to share our progress on DCS World Dynamic Campaign Engine.
This is quite a big step for us and despite the slow progress, we are optimistic that it will
be a great enhancement to DCS. We cannot give you a firm initial OB release date yet as
things are still quite raw, but we will keep you updated regularly as the next milestones
come to pass.
Our third-party partners TrueGrit Virtual Technologies are working hard on the
DCS: Eurofighter Typhoon. Please check out some of the cool stuff they are up to below.
We would like to thank our internal and external Beta-Testers Teams for the relentless
testing and reporting in the lead up to the upcoming OB in mid August. We are optimistic
about the rate of bug squashing and trust that performance will also improve in the
coming releases.
Thank you for your passion and support.
Yours sincerely,

Dynamic Campaign Engine
For DCS World

attachment.php

The DCS World Dynamic Campaign Engine combines a Real-Time Strategy (RTS) engine
with military forces and economics layers (production, logistics, use and transfer of resources)
that pitch two opposing sides aided by advanced strategic and tactical AI.

We have now completed the core RTS logic and have connected it to DCS World. We are
currently finalising the basics of the in-game economic models. We will be working on the
combat tasking logic and certain win-win situations in the near future. The last stage will
be the Client - Server architecture needed to support large campaigns with on-going
online sessions.

We are certain that you will have many detailed questions and look forward to revealing
more information on this module as and when we are in position to demonstrate some
of the features live.

Eurofighter Typhoon
Development Report

attachment.php

‘We at TrueGrit Virtual Technologies would like to take this chance to give you some latest
updates concerning the Eurofighter Typhoon Development. It is with great pride that we can
officially announce a collaboration with Diehl Defence GmbH.

Diehl Defence GmbH is located in Überlingen, Germany and is the manufacturer of the soph-
-isticated IRIS-T missile. They are offering us full support in bringing the most realistic version
of the IRIS-T to DCS World – as always within the limits of what can be released to a public
platform like DCS. It will be available to you with the initial launch of the German Eurofighter
Typhoon Version and will be your main heat seeking missile. With this collaboration we have
come one step closer to bringing you the most realistic experience of the Eurofighter Typhoon
possible.

We are working at full throttle on all areas of the project and are making good progress. The
progress picture by the almighty Fragger shows the latest version of the cockpit.

We would like to thank you for your unwavering support and enthusiasm, as it is a constant
reminder of what we are working towards and motivates us to give our best. You can be sure
that every post, comment and feedback reaches us and is very appreciated. ‘

P-47 Thunderbolt
Upgrades

attachment.php

The P-47 proved to be a formidable fighter-bomber due to its armament, heavy bomb load
and ability to absorb enemy fire. The P-47’s durability was due in part to its exceptionally
dependable P&W R2800 radial piston engine, which unlike comparable liquid-cooled engines,
had a high tolerance for damage. P-47 pilots frequently carried two 500 lb (227 kg) bombs,
using a favoured skip bombing tactic, skipping bombs into railroad tunnels to destroy hidden
enemy trains.

We are currently working on the bomb arming controls and detonation set-up adjustments.
We are also working on the D-30 early and D-40 variants. Both versions include new modifi-
-cations and improved damage modelling. These updates will be available in the up-coming
DCS World Open Beta (OB) updates.

Thank you again for your passion and support,
Kind regards,
