de Havilland DH-80 Puss Moth

What is a good cruising altitude for this type of plane? I cant find anything more than the service ceiling on the net.

It depends on if you want speed, economy or to survive the flight. :icon_lol:

It will be fastest around 3000' but get better economy (and be slower) as you go up. Any thing much over 10,000 and you are going to start to run out of oxygen.

In the 1930's I don't know if they had ATC rules that stated VFR flights fly at this altitude or not. I would guess that did not come until later.

The best cruise is probably 4000' which would be a good mix of power and speed.

Ultimately for this plane it will be personal choice.

Low and slow, VFR only ... no more than 12000' but usually 2-6000'.

Here are some test results posted over in the RTWR forums:

Spookster67 ran some speed tests with it, with these results (in FS2004).

85 ktas @ 12000
95.5 @ 9000
99.5 @ 7000
103.5 @ 5000
105 @ 4000
106.5 @ 3000
108 @ 2000
109.5 @ 1000

She's truly a beauty Milton,

Just got to fly her this morning, had football last night, too tired when I got home. It is faster than I thought, a true low and slightly faster airplane. Love the arrangement of the seats.

I'll be spending more time in this and will more than likely port her to FSX as well per Roger's screens.

Amazing video Claudius. What programs do you use to do the fly bys and video capture with?

Awesome Plane

Great Job!! :ernae: Thanks so much!!!

I have one question is their no VC light for flying at night? I have the file "fx_vclight_dh80" in my effects folder but no luck.

No battery, no generator, only VFR during the day. All the examples we looked at had no lights of any kind that I could find.

Of course, you could always move the VC light forward and up a bit. :) Its in the back seat floor area now.

Video stuff ...

Hi,

What programs do you use to do the fly bys and video capture with?

First FSrecorder for record the flight (setting to max for img/s)
After I replay the FSrecorder sequence and record segments with FRAPS (half resolution screen - 100fps - sound)
After I reformat the AVI with Movie Maker.
It's sometime scary regarding performances (all tweaked a max:) )
