    Just when you think you have everything running some what better...

    You get a message from the Hosting company. Short story they need to move us to a new server. I have been working with them to plan a good date for all concerned. Here is what we have come up with as a schedule.

    1. November 4th 17:00 -5UTC shut off the forums and start backup proceedures. During this time there will be no access to the forums or the Resource Section.
    2. November 5th Continue with Backups and download same until complete.
    3. November 6th 7:00 turn over server to hosting company to move system to new server
    4. November 7th - 8th restore backups and upgrade forum software.

    If all goes well we should be back online on November 8th.

    To keep you updated we will post updates on AVSIM forums.

How true! It is so easy to miss the point of this great hobby of ours. Even in the virtual world, feats like this bring a great feeling of achievement. Well done stearmandriver!
 
I can feel the satisfaction in completing a flight like this. I did the "sound the world in 80 flights" a couple of years ago. It was great fun and educational flying to different places in the world and with Time precession, the boring parts go fast.

looking for some great fsx flights? Make up your own round the world flight plan and do a little research on where you'll fly over. Great fun!
 
Great thread. Sure, flying a simulator in such a manner might seem silly to some. But, just like some people enjoy doing crossword puzzles or solving math problems to exercise their minds, flightsimming with a complex aircraft using "Old school" navigation certainly does the same. Actually, I think it is even more stimulating because it also includes the pressure of managing the aircraft and it's systems in addition to solving the navigation "puzzle.

Very interesting post indeed - well done. Brings back pleasant memories of celestial navigation using conventional sextants as well as the artificial horizon periscope sextant we had in the old Oberon class boats. Fortunately SATNAV was just around the corner and more reliable positions were obtainable.
