Deb....an update

OBIO

Retired SOH Admin
Not about to attempt to dig back through all the threads and find the pre-existing thread on Deb's recovery....but I wanted to give you all an update.

Deb is probably at about 85 to 90% recovered. She still has facial paralysis, her right eye still isn't working right. She still has some pretty severe fatigue and can get seriously tired doing even minor things. How much if any of these areas will clear up is up in the air....and only time will tell...and in this case time means years.

On a brighter note...Deb has not used her wheel chair for several months, has not used her walker for about 3 to 4 months. She is walking almost normally...still has some balance issues due to her right eye and the lack of depth perception and peripheral vision. But she is climbing stairs like champ. The chair lift system has been removed and my father-in-law has it for sale, and I hope that he can recoup a good chunk of the $1800 he spent for the system...it is low mileage and used for only 7 months.

She has been spending every Wednesday out with her mom and sisters....hitting the Salvation Army Thrift store, ice cream stand, playing cards, getting her nails done...basically having a grand time. She usually comes home with some "treasures" and in a pretty worn out state. But, she goes like it is nothing.

A couple times, she has gone to the lake with her younger sister and spent some time on the beach and in the water.

All in all, she is good. 85 to 90% recovery following the removal of a brain tumor the size of a lemon....that is more than good....and I am glad to have her even at 85%...sure beats not having her at all.

Thank you all, my Brothers, for the prayers that you sent up for my sweetie, and for the moral support that you all have given.

Tim

Obio,

Thanks for the update, I'm overjoyed to hear of her progress. :ernae:

Thanks for the update Obio. My M-i-L died from a brain tumour the size of an orange 7 years ago this coming October so I understand what you have been through. Let's hope Deb's recovery keeps going in the same manner.

Superb stuff Tim. Here's to further improvements!:ernae:

One prayer answered! I hope and pray, she recovers fully.... May cancer won't touch her body again!

Thank you, Jesus!

Good News Indeed !!
Was wondering how she was doing , thanks for the report.
Wishing you both MANY good years ahead of you !!!

Thanks Obio, we also are continuing to pray for her continued recovery and thanksgiving for what God has given to her thus far.

Yes, I think most of us have an emotional investment in Deb's recovery. Keep us posted. Also, let us know if we can do anything besides give you our emotional support.

Well, now that you mention it....my car needs a good wash and wax and if anyone knows a good dentist, I have a couple teeth that need fixed.

Monday afternoon, Deb had her 1-year follow up appointment with the neurologist who performed her brain surgery. Overall, he was quite happy with the level of recovery that Deb has made. That's good. What's not so good is that he said that the likelihood of any further recovery is slim. He said the fatigue may lessen as time goes on, that her balance may improve over time...but he honestly does not see the paralysis in Deb's face going away or for her right eye to work normally.

Of course, I told Deb that she is not to let that get her down, to make her give up hope....and that Doctors don't always have the correct answers, that her tumor was far larger than any of its type seen before so it may take longer to fully recover than is considered normal, and that God still has the final say in things....and He just might want her to have her smile back in time.
