Default Airport Buildings

I honestly don't think the rest of the FS world would generate enough interest in vintage for MS to invest in it. It'll likely be third-party dev's that tackle that.

That was my thought. If the hangars are Missing as opposed to just generic models, that tells me there are plans to add them in the future. That could be a third party developer or Asobo is modeling them themselves.

Planes of Fame and Fantasy of Flight are both associated with MS. I remember years ago visiting Fantasy of Flight, and they had a bunch of sims set up using CFS I'm pretty sure it was.

In continuing to report on any airports missing hangars/buildings (as I did throughout the alpha/beta), I have now today received auto-generated messages back from the dev team, with regard to all of the latest airport reports I've filed since the release of the sim, describing the free "World Updates" that will start to be released every 2-3 months. These will focus on specific regions at a time and the airports and cities within them, with further fine tuning, updates and more details. This will include injecting into each specific region at a time, all of the latest updates from the Bing data, new hand-modeled airports, new hand-modeled points of interest, and new challenges/missions.

I have noticed in some cities, like when I visited Gdansk in Poland, that some key landmarks are missing, even from the AI, which might very well suggest that they've already been removed form the AI in order to make way for hand-modeled versions at some point down the road.

Amazing screenshots John. I do have one I'd be interested to see from the air. . .KGYI (North Texas Regional). It was Perrin AFB in the 60's and my last PCS base and is down the highway from my Apartment. Thanks for the great shots.

Hey John,

Got another question/flyover request for you. How are military air bases handled in FS2020? I haven't seen much on YouTube about them. One of the enduring annoyances of FSX and P3D was how sketchy the military bases were. You couldn't even select a parking slot in the flight planner, let alone opt to fly military ATC procedures, and there was little in the way of specialized military buildings, vehicles, and ground facilities. I'd be curious what the military bases are like, both in the US and around the world. Any ones, really, but Edwards, Nellis, Andrews, Pensacola, Selfridge, CFB Trenton, Cold Lake, RAF Coningsby, are just a few of the ones I like to fly out of in P3D, or would, if they weren't so boring.

Thanks,

August

For the most part they're all there (as far as I've seen) and looking pretty good. Contrary to FSX, and the way they handled military airports then, now there are parking spots at the military airports (sometimes a ton of parking spots!), but you will also now find some times a lot of civilian aircraft at those airports/bases too. I'll get some screenshots of those you've listed.

Hi John, it seems a bit rude to ask someone to check out a couple of airports. I learnt to fly gliders at Pocklington in the UK it's a small airfield so is probably not listed.
But I had flying lessons from Humberside airport and sandtoft is a small airfield nearby.
Two airports in the states that gliders fly out of Nephi U14 and Heber KHCR 36U both of these areas will probably look stunning in the new sim.

Thanks Dave.

No problem, Dave, I will check those out and post some screenshots. I enjoy doing this, as I get to see areas that I probably never would have thought to otherwise, and I often find myself going back to those areas again.

Edwards AFB

I took a few screenshots of each of the military airports you listed, August, as well as a few more sprinkled in.

Here is Edwards:

Edwards Auxiliary:

Nellis AFB

Nellis looks fantastic, though it is missing a number of hangars right now.

Had to include a screenshot of the nearby Las Vegas Motor Speedway:

Andrews AFB

Andrews looks pretty good. It's in a lower resolution area and a section of the tarmac apron is missing, showing the aerial image instead (should be very easy to fix).

Pensacola NAS

Like Nellis, Pensacola is situated within the highest-resolution/photogrammetry, but is also missing several structures right now.

CFB Cold Lake

Another great one, I think. I love that you can see the outdoor display aircraft in the aerials.
