Defense of Australia update...

Reply...

To all,

Because the Defense of Australia campaign rework is completed, pending beta testing...I've moved onto another project. The P-39 Papua New Guinea campaign is progressing, I've gotten the first two missions completed. The nice thing now is that we have Hudsons, Marauders, and B-17s, so they can actually be incorporated into the missions rather than just being mentioned and substituted.

:medals::applause::applause:Rami I have know idea where you find the time for all the work you put in for cfs2 and soh. I would like to extend my thanks a thousand times for your continuing work.:icon29::icon29:

Papua New Guinea update...

Hey guys,

The Papua New Guinea campaign is progressing nicely, I finished up all the mission texts last night and made an airbase object layout for Milne Bay: Turnbull this morning. I'm going through the missions one at a time to make sure they're timed correctly, perhaps adding a few more ships and whatnot, then I'll work on the dynamic elements. This is almost a linear campaign, but there is one hidden mission.

The Papua New Guinea campaign runs from the end of April, 1942 through the end of May, 1943.

After this...it's on to Milne Bay.

Last update on Defense of Australia...

Hello all,

I just wanted to pass along that the Defense of Australia package is being evaluated by two fantastic testers, EC_ILO and KDriver. They're reporting on virtually all of the missions and offering suggestions and feedback. In this case, the absence of downloads is a wonderful thing, because it's allowing me the time and patience to make sure the campaign package is ready when I release it.

Beyond that, I feel the legacy of the the original campaign. This dual-sided campaign was a monumental achievement when it was released in 2002, and my intent is to honor it. For the Coral Sea missions and the fifteen missions converted from CFS1, there is much less pressure. Some of those missions are factually-based, and others are historical fiction.

The Papua New Guinea campaign for the P-39 Airacobra will pick up where the pilots of the RAAF left off.

Hey guys,

This is just an update. KDriver gave me Erardo's modified Japanese missions for DoA, but he's dropped off the radar screen, so I have no idea if and when I'll get any Australian mods. I'm wondering if I should just release DoA "as is." The Australian voice pack will be a great addition, but it's not strictly necessary to fly the campaign.

I have been holding off on the P-39 campaign to release it at the same time.

I was not aware of a CFS1 DOA. I had backed up and just re-installed Joe Amodea (and someone else whom I forget) IDA43v2 made just for CFS2. (11MB package) It was such a professional package that MS noticed it and featured it on their website. (and how he came about in creating the CFS3 research team I told you about)

I'm pretty sure it has Aussie Voices, I still talk to Joe (Facebook) and can ask him something if you'd like.

You can download it still at Flightsim.com search files, CFS2 Missions with the name Joe Amodea and you'll find it.

Plus at Joe's site you can learn everything and more about it.

JETninja,

1) I am well aware of the history of CFS2's In Defense of Australia, that is the reason why I approached the project with some hesitation and went out of my way to contact them to gain their permission. I also changed the name of my project so as to not alter their legacy.

2) As far as Australian sounds, what I'm actually referring to are the .gvt, .gvr, and .gui sounds. In your time away, there have been packs made for Germany, Great Britain, Italy, and France. Australia is the next in line. The advantage of these is that they are built-in, so you don't have to add individual .wav files to each mission.

Australian Radio Chatter

I am still waiting for the stars of this voice pack to finish up the scripts for gvr files one and two. RC Cawte is having some minor technical difficulties that I am sure will get ironed out quickly. For those of you who have, or are in the process of, installing Rami's new Australian campaign remasters, feel free to send me a PM if you would like an advanced copy of gvr files three through seven. These are actually all the same file (don't know why CFS2 requires five copies). It does, however, represent 3/4 of all the radio scripts used by the sim. Another thing you can do is download FVB's British Radio Chatter from here: http://simviation.com/cfs2misc13.htm and use gvr files one and two from it. Just rename them aus01.gvr and aus02.gvr. Then use the gvr file you get from me for aus03.gvr, aus04.gvr, aus05.gvr, aus06.gvr, and aus07.gvr. same for the gvt and gvi files. Sorry for the delay, but these language packs are truly a community project and doing them right requires patience. I believe five or six people have contributed to this project so far and I have taken the liberty of picking and choosing only the best for release.
