Defiant or Blackburn Roc for CFS3?

Hi,

Does anyone know of a Defiant or Blackburn Roc (more-or-less the same thing) available for CFS3? The only one I've seen is the Blackburn Roc on Donationware, but that's seems to be for FS9. If there's no other available, is it possible to convert for use in CFS3/

Thanks,
Mike

Hello praetorian. There is a Defiant in the works, but afaik its builder has major health concerns keeping him from finishing it yet. We all wish him well and a good recovery.

It's only possible to convert a FS9 model to CFS3 if you have access to the original model source files, or you are prepared to ignore copyright issues - on neither count are you likely to see that Roc in CFS3, sorry.

There is a Blackburn Skua in MAW by Corrida da Posta which possibly was a conversion from FS9.

Hi Flash

Not to be the first of the class but the correct name of the modeller is CORRADO LA POSTA... ahh those strange italian names LOL
Cheers :ernae: and have always good flying.

Thanks for the replies to my inquery. The one by Corrado la Posta may be what I'm looking for. But isn't the MAW stuff no longer available, as per discussions in another thread? I don't know exactly what the situation is regarding that, but if by some chance the plane is available without stepping on people's toes (or their copyrights), where can I get it? Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

Well, maybe I'm getting ahead of myself. First I should ask: 1, does the skua have that same peculiar turret main armament as the Roc/Defiant? and 2, does it behave like a fighter in the CFS3 sim? I'm trying to use it in a BoB period mission. Defiants of Squadron 264 based out of Kirton-on-Lindsey were among the aircraft involved the intercept of Ju-88's from Luftflotte 5 off the coast of Britain near the Humber on August 15. I'm trying to build a variation of this mission, which is the reason why I need the aircraft. I don't mind if it has a desert paint sceme from the MAW theatre of operation, as long as it can be made to "act appropriately" as a BoB bomber intercept.

MAW's Skua

Hi Praetorian

1) The Skua is a sort of Rock WITHOUT the turret
2) From what I saw in one MAW mission, it behave more like a dive bomber.

So even though it don't have a desert skin but a FAA painting, I think it will not be suitable for what You are intended to do (but I should be wrong).
Cheers :ernae: and have always good flying

You know, as long as its only for your own private use, you can move the MAW a/c to any of your other installs w/ the authors' blessing.... do you need help w/ this?:engel016:

Praetorian...whilst waiting for the cfs3 version to arrive there is one available for cfs2 if you have it.... a very nice model but you can't get in the turret without some modding of the config files and then only as a 'rear view'.

John Whelan and I are finishing up Gregs cfs3 defiant. The virtual cockpits will lack some of the detail that Greg intended but will be quite usable.

Yes, thanks to Steve, the Defiant will be released!
Greg did a fantastic job of the main model, and a lot of the pit, but there is a lot of work to be done still. I was very relieved when Steve said he would take it on, as, unfortunately Greg isn't up to finishing it!

It's not easy taking on other people's work, Steve has already done some work on this for Greg, multimodelling if I remember correctly, so I really appreciate him doing this, and seeing it through! :ernae:

The main paint is more or less complete, as you can see, and I also have a few other skins, including the classic all over black!

I'll also take the oppertunity to publicly thank Greg for kindly allowing his source to be used! Cheers mate!:wavey:

Thanks very much for the additional info. It seems the Skua won't do what I need it to, and I don't have CFS2 - only CFS3. Seems like my best bet is to wait for your version, Sdsbolt. Btw, am I correct in assuming that the Greg who is seriously ill is Greg Law? I'm quite sad to hear about that. He's a rather prolific builder of some really outstanding aircraft. My harddrive is happily cluttered with the fruits of his labor. I can only wish him the best and hope for his recovery.

Popsaka, about MAW; I never downloaded it originally because it was available as rather huge (approx. 100MB) downloads and I only have a dial-up modem. I had put "downloading MAW" at the top of my "to do list" if I got access to a faster internet connection, but now it appears that the downloads are no longer available at all. Not sure what my options are at this point. (Even though the Skua appears to be something other than what I needed for this particular mission, There was still probably lots of good stuff in MAW that I would have enjoyed.)

Wow! just saw the screen caps of the roc/defiant posted while I was writing my last post. All I can say is that it really looks great. Can't wait to fly it.:jump:

:kilroy:Praetorian, why don't you just post a request here for a MAW DVD? Someone may be able to help you there.:d

Good idea, Grizzly! If anyone out there who's reading this can help me out, I'm looking for MAW on DVD. If you have one available, please private message me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again,
Mike

Yes the Skua was supposed to be a dive bomber and a carrier fighter. The Admiralty were always trying to squeeze as much from the £RN as they could, often to the detriment of the design. A pity the MAW Skua and Fulmer were only ai.

Cheers John, great news about the Defiant and many thanks to Greg and Steven! :jump:

Beau, I hadn't spotted the Skua so far, although I'm rather enjoying exploring MAW 'as she is spoke' with proper detail and frame rates. The models and skinning are gorgeous and the effects disturbingly realistic!
On the RN side (again), you don't know if anyone built that other much-loathed aircraft, the Fairey Barracuda?
