DeHavilland DH.86 Express by Kazunori Ito

T-Square brought this one to my attention in another topic. I figured best to start a new topic, rather than add to the DH89 topic.

T-Square says

Hey OleBoy

If you like De Havillands Ito did this one.

FS2002/FS2004 DeHavilland DH.86 Express. This was a four engined development of the D.H.84 Dragon, developed in 1933 to meet an order by the Australian QANTAS for an airliner to fly the Singapore to Australia route. A number were operated by various military services. A total of 62 were built. The DH 86 had a busy career until eight were impressed into RAAF service from late 1939. Three kind of paint examples (Imperial Airways, Qantas Airlines, for military) are included. By Kazunori Ito.

Mr Ito did a great job. It flies very nice. Has a great 2D panel and VC that's not bad either.

Add to this

Two sets of repaints for it over at the Pond - plus Garys sounds can be modded for 4 engines :)

Sorry The devil made me do it

Leif

BTW there is a new Express in the works dont quote me but I do believe for FSX and its not by Ito san

what I want is a Dragonfly

Something I noticed about the start-up is that it takes forever to get the engines to fire. I tried adding in a bit of throttle but that made little to no difference. Are others experiencing the same?

I looked at the config file but I'm not sure what to be looking for to change.

Under engine section, increase starter torque bit by bit until you have it where you want it. :salute:

Hi,

Under engine section, increase starter torque bit by bit until you have it where you want it.
Mind you .. this aircraft have not a engine or a prop chapter in aircraft.cfg :)
And adding those have no effects ... so they must also not be in the air file !!

The key is found in "General Engine Data". It's well-documented that Ito-san took great pains with the visual model as that was his area of interest, but was NOT an 'airfile guy'. His only desire was to have a model fly so he could enjoy the visuals and thus he cut many corners. In this case (as many other of his a/c) you find:

[GeneralEngineData]
engine_type=1

engine_type: 0=Piston, 1=Jet, 2=None, 3=Helo-Turbine, 4=Rocket, 5=Turboprop
so the reason it takes so long to "spool up" is just that - you are starting a shop-heater.

Many of us cherish every plane he has modeled, but the work required to tidy up the details, as well as respect for his wishes regarding modification tend to limit the number that have been brought up to a high level of flight dynamics accuracy.

Sorry, forgot that Ito uses turbines in all planes. I was thinking of the DH-89.

Wasn't there another DH.86 over at The Old Hangar? I seem to recall that it was a beta version, but could well be worth checking out - and maybe the FDE could be applies to Itosan's model?

I think a couple of us over at the Pond played mix and match with those two Oldboy :)

I know Peter Watkins did a couple of repaints including a Union Airways one

Leif

This is odd. I installed the beta and tested it. I found the FDE is better so I backed up the originals from Kaz Ito's and popped the config and air file in there and loaded it up. Contact points are way off, but that wasn't my concern right now. The spooling is no longer there and the engines fire more realistically. Kaz's 86 had a 2D and no VC. But when I put the new air and config file in there, now there's a VC. Problem is, the viewpoint is from the passenger area. Once I get that figured out (if I can) it will have the same view for the 2D and VC. Here's a snap from VC view

dh86vcview.jpg

AH yes

I do remember that problem -- you can move the POV forward (Had to do the same with the Skyvan as the VC position was sitting on top of a box behind the flight deck bulkhead.

Hi,

This work perfect for me (using the airfile (renamed) of the old hangar DH86)
I don't use VC (it's my religion dictat .. lol ) so I have no further problems :)

OB,

Go to aircraft config and find views. The first number is side to sid, the second is up and down and the thir, which you want to move foward is the front to back. Just make it a higher positive number in low increments until you are where you want to be.:ernae:
