I've got permission to convert Lee Holmes' DH-86 Express beta. She scrubs up pretty well. An early screenie...

Anyone know of a good pack of sounds to use?

Very nice!

Very promising... love doped fabric!

Sounds

Hi Uncle

How about the sounds from the DH89 CFS2 conversion by Gavinc ( here in the library ) - same engines and the airfile will give multi start up
Just a thought

all the best

baldy

Thanks for the pointer Mike.

Sounds are done - I ended up using an Obio cfg for a Mavis sound file & changed the references to use the DH89 sounds.

Currently testing the airfile for AI performance & range...and more painting (of course:a1310:)

...plodding on...

Still tweaking things inbetween other projects & real life...

Screengrabs of a few more military repaints. I'll likely do a small set of civilian repaints & then begin assembling for upload.

Some civvie paint jobs, an unusual subject matter for me...:teapot:

maybe the FS9 guys will find them useful. :icon_lol:

A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 2 Aircraft - British

Description: CLH DH86 Express for CFS2 by UncleTgt

This is a conversion of the FS2004 DH86 Express by Lee Holmes.

The pack includes new air & dp files, plus WIN 7 safe panels. There are glossy & matt finish models of both DH86A & DH86B models. (4 model choices in all)

It is uploaded as a complete aircraft for ease of installation. The aircraft sounds are based on the sound folder included in GavinC's conversion of Dave Garwood's DH89. The model was hex-edited to give a VC view, unfortunately I could not get any instruments to show up. The FS9 model folder has also been hex-edited for VC view. The single dp file was constructed to give both civilian & impressed aircraft loadouts.

The textures included are:

Glossy DH86A: "Jupiter" Railway Air Services, Cologne March 1937.

Matt DH86A: VH-USC Qantas Empire Airways, Papua New Guinea March 1942.

Glossy DH86B: "Dardanus" Imperial Airways, Wei Chow island November 1939.

Matt DH86B: "Dardanus" impressed into 1st AAU RAAF, Western Desert May 1942.

Other repaints will be posted in separate skinpacks.

To install, unzip the download to a temporary location & move/ copy files to the matching folder names inside your chosen CFS 2 install.

Thanks to: Lee Holmes for the original DH86 Express beta.

Kelticheart for his prop bitmaps & exhaust effects.

This is freeware and subject to the usual conditions

John,

You did outstanding work on these, what a neat aircraft to add to the collection! :encouragement:

It needs a better 2D panel, but I got fed up looking for good quality cockpit photos.

I included some unusual payloads because as I did more digging, I found out the sheer variety of wartime missions this aircraft was used for.

The Qantas birds were used for evacuations from PNG ahead of the Jap advance. Later that summer they were used for CASEVAC, new airstrip recon, & low level supply drops to the defenders at Buna. That all sounds like pretty dangerous work for civilian aircrew!

In the MTO they were used by the Australians for CASEVAC.

Pre-WW2 the Australians used them for Air Mail, & ran a route from Sydney to Rabaul. A couple of aircraft had home-made LR tanks fitted so they could climb over the Stanley range from Port Moresby to Salamaua - all without an oxygen system!

Imperial Airways "Dardanus" was involved in a running fight with A5Ms of the 14th ku & was forced to land at Wei Chow island 8th NOV 1939.

The NZ & Indian aircraft were fitted with bomb racks & used as make-do coastal patrol a/c until something better could be found...

What a beauty!

Marvellous accomplishment, UncleTgt! The same top-notch quality you spoiled all of us with over the years! Many thanks to Lee Holmes as well, for allowing conversion to CFS2 and re-upload.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
