"The smile" is fairly much the 'technical' term used by Mustang restorers/maintenance guys as well, for the induction-trunk scoop intake, which is a solid metal casting.

Im still hunting for a repaint of any P-51 in the form of "Glamorous Glen III" which was Chuck Yeager's P-51D
