Dino's F-14 problem

Anyone seen this type of "light" before? This is the latest version, 1.06. The last version also did it. Light,1,2 shows gear coming down, to show position of light. Seems to be below and just to the port side. The light seems to flare when passing over a cloud. Happens with exterior light on and off.

I believe you spotted a Foo fighter in close formation with the Tomcat.

I also have this problem in my install of 1.06, I believe you might be able to fix through the aircraft config file under the lights sub section. Haven't had the time to do this myself yet.

Some people suffered from this with the T-45 Goshawk as well.

Dave

Hi - never seen this happen on the Tomcat...
The light is where the catapult attach point should be...

Some users reported a similar problem for the T-45 - and all of them were using SP1 / SP2 but not Acceleration... Which makes some sense as the catapult attach point is an Acceleration feature...

Hi,
Yesterday I was trying to code the attached points for the launch bar of my current carrier fighter project and I had exactly the same problem: a light showing up right at the launch bar attached point position... (btw thank you Dino for your blog's post: it was very useful!)

I have no idea of what happened, I have to look into the .x file to see if the export process did'nt mess up the attached point code (adding a light effect for example)....

Regards,
Sylvain

PS: I'm using FSX/Acceleration

I am very curious to see your new bird!

I think the light issue you have is different from dharris' one -yours is a bug in the exporter I faced it several times during the T-45 development, and it has shown on a Tomcat test build recently:

What happens to me is that I cannot delete any attach point after its creation - if I do, the catapult attach becomes a light, and possibly the other lights are screwed up, too. I was trying new A/b effect for the Tomcat but if I delete the attachpoints for the old ones the cat points become lights, the landing light is screwed and one of the red lights turned green.

I did not look into the .X for this issue - but you'll probably some mess there.

Worse than that, deleting the points and remaking them does not seem to work - the source is "screwed" and so will be all the later versions. I had to roll back to a previous save and keep the points.

dharris's issue is a different one IMHO - some users have lights where the cat point should be (launch bar working for all the other users). It is the first time I see it on the Tomcat, but those who had this issue in the Goshawk were all non-Acceleration users.

Hi Dino!
Damned!! You're scaring me, the launch bar attached points were my two first one that I added in my model...
So I have to be very selfcare about my source...Thanks to having warned me!

My new bird is already very young, I have to improve it before an official presentation:bump:
Regards,
Sylvain

I am using Xp pro sp3 and fsx sp2 I do not have accelertion. I will have to try reinstalling version prior to l.05 and see if that helps.

Sylvain,

did not want to scare you :icon_lol:.... It does not always happen, but when it does I was unable to fix it and had to roll back. Strange thing, as I said, is that when it happens, remaking the part won't help (!) nor reassigning the attachpoint proprieties, that is at least on my system... It is much like the "pruning animation" issue - that seems to delete the shadow of a part. I don't know what is the cause and I don't know what is the cure - apart from rollback.

@ dharris
The issue you are having is probably due the fact you do not have Acceleration... So, installing previous version will not help - most probably

I reinstalled an earlier version and it works alright. I believe it is version 1. It has the afterburner flashing problem, but I have found that by cutting back just slightly on the throtle it goes away

Glad to know that 1.00 works for you :)

...still, I think this kind of issues should not show when using Acceleration - the Tomcat is compiled with the Acceleration SDK - and, while Microsoft warns that the SDK are incompatible, I never saw a clear list of what are the real differences/incompatibilities.

For example, I was told Acceleration flight models (at least the ones that used the new Wave Drag table for supersonic planes) were incompatible with SP2 - but it seems they work fine :-S

I will let you know how things are progressing. Love the plane, always did. I just ordered fsx gold, so maybe I won't have these problems. All the best and thanks for the best tomcat out here. Don
