Dino's V0.99 Update for the F-14 has been released!

Thanks for the HU, papab!:icon29:, And thanks go to Dino for continuing to make an outstanding freeware model even better.:medals::applause:

The old repaints will work but the update afterburners prior to this model will not. The newer modeled in effect can't be canceled out easily to use the other alternate effects. For now, V.95 is fine.

These two, by Bob Rivera and Tom Stovall respectively, seem to be working so far; perhaps a connoisseur could find some niggles. I notice that, in my screenshot of Tom's livery, the wings are unfolded, which isn't so good for the Hornet next to it -- but that's because I did Bob's screenshot first, and the model resets itself after an aircraft change.

This was my first Tomcat flight since I started working on carrier ops with the Hornet. Trapped on the first try, so apparently there is some carry-over in skills. Not that I mistake this for actual competence, mind you!

Repaints seem to be working fine for me, especially love the canopy Dino!!

Instant removal..Lucky I kept the previous version..Rather have the inverted names on the canopy.

After you remove the effects and textures, you are left with the outer transparent black plume as shown in Yago's screen shot above. I reverted back as well. I have nearly everything tuned the way I want it on V .95 anyhow.

I had to try something though.After very complicated modifications of all 5 afterburner textures ,panel and aircraft.cfg I managed to trick it to my pleasure.I can get my old burner effects and the new one ..but, it,s modified and made to kick-in after a few good seconds ,like a 120% throttle, kinda super burner stage..works great at night. I could try to explain but requires heavy expertise in photoshop,alpha channels,DDS files.Dinos files must be coded or something cause I couldnt modify and save them ,so I had to create fake ones at different sizes and duped the model this way..

F14_AB_Spec2,F14_AB_Spec3,F14_AB_Spec4,F14_AB_Spec5,F14_AB_t.This are the files I replaced.Open a new 512X512 photoshop file, make it a perfect black H,S,B all = 0.Rest of the values=0 also.
Save it as bmp.Open DXTBmp tool and modify alpha chanell to a perfect black also,replace and save.Open with photoshop and save it as DDS without mipmaps.The rename it with all those 5 file names above.

Panel needs to have the autothrottle gauge( KO_F16_FX) added to cfg, and the lights with the right burner effects added in the aircraft.cfg
[LIGHTS]
light.1 = 10, -13.50, 0.00, 4.00, fx_F14_vclight,
light.2 = 10, -19.00, 0.00, 4.00, fx_F14_vclight,
light.3= 9, -48.5, -4.76, -0.30, fx_iris_f14a_aniburner
light.4= 9, -48.5, 4.70, -0.20, fx_iris_f14a_aniburner
light.6= 9, -48.5, -4.90, -0.57, fx_21um_ab.burner1.fx
light.7= 9, -48.5, 4.60, -0.57, fx_21um_ab.burner1.fx

For the new burner effect to kick-in I have to push the throtlle all the way up and wait for few seconds,but if i dont want it to appear ,i,ll just throttle back a notch and my old afterburner effects are visible and I still have the right powerful acceleration..Usualy you dont need to use so much power for long time to be bothered by the new effect,wich still looks great and real in the dark..Ready for a midnight catapult launch ? Then crank it all away up!

Seems that my update was not perceived as an improvement afterall :)

Anyway, as promised on my blog, I will release a separate file with an alternate model without the "modeled" burner this evening - it is a 10 minutes job on my side, and I see many Tomcat fans prefer other burner effects.

A couple of clarifications:
- textures "encoding"... Well, no, there is no encoding. But I use The Gimp as direct .dds editor (being the only freeware image editor that does it) and it seems like the default DDS encoding is not compatible with many other apps (including Imagetool). FSX displays the images correctly.
- the only part that has received a change in texture coordinates is the canopy frame. Repaints using the default texture (by aliasing) are not affected. Nor are repaints in wich, by chance, the color of the texture is already what it should be. If you see any problem, it would be in the right side of the canopy frame.

@Yago9 - The screenshots you've posted in the past were showing some very interesting repaints. I hope you will soon find the time to release them.

Sonic Boom

I wish that the sonic boom effect were added to this plane. It was
an effect that was on some of the other payware planes. I think
alphasim had it on one of their jets and I could add it to their
F-4 phantom jets. It worked ducky. :wavey:
