Dirty PCs

Holy crap Marie, that's disgusting! Those were just plain filthy. I can't see how any of them ran.

My stepdaughter's computer was almost that bad a few years ago but nothing like these. But as far as I know her's could be like that... it's never been touched again since I cleaned it.

I took a look at those pictures and immediately opened up my computer to make sure it was clean and it was thank goodness.

Scary scary....

Some bad dust and hair buildup!

and mice.. and junkfood..

What on Earth was on those keyboard keys????

Bill

Eh...............

I'll drop this here. This sums it up quite nicely.

I have been working on computers and other office equipment for over 25 years, and I have seen plenty of machines that were just packed full of dust and other misc assorded buildup. The server from the mailroom reminded me of a system that actually ignited the buildup and produced the worst smell imaginable, it was not heat build up that caused the ignition, in that case the stuff ended up so thick it was able to conduct a current on one of the high voltage circuits, small puff of smoke, and it took out the main board. The user expected it should have been covered by the warranty! I don't know which was worse the fact that they expected a free repair for their neglect or that it happened to a system that was less than 2 years old...

I have been repairing computers 15 + years,
Once I was brought a computer ............. and when I pulled the shell off from it, (desktop model) every where was roach crap, and I mean every where. I told the person to take this computer out of here and burn it.

I busted out laughing when I saw those pictures and read what you guys wrote. Those computers look just like the daughter in law pooter. I have only gone upstairs where they live only once and vowed to never do it again. Clara is nothing but a filthy pig.To tell you had bad this house is when Linda and I go for a visit, I stand the whole time. I refuse to sit anywhere in the house, I have never eaten at their house either, and I never let her touch me. I got a question for you guys. Working in customers homes see how you can figure this one. How does cock roach survive in a refh. I've been in customers house that they are in the food and jello back stroking in soup bowls...ect..ect. I've seen customers pull the food out and see the cockroaches in the food and just put it back in the refh with the damn things still in the food. Most bugs die in the freezer and refh area....these things seem to multiply. I guess you already know what the kitchen and rest of the house looks like.

Having worked in the RMA/Depot dept of a well known computer company for a number of years, I too have seen systems just as dirty as those pics.
Also,we had one customer who returned a notebook worth about €5k which had been suffering from technical issues. When he was shipping it back to us for examination/repair he urinated into the shipping box. 2 days later it arrived at our repair facility. The smell off of that package will stay with me forever. Some people are worse than animals.

I cover the intake vents in my computer cases with used clothes dryer fabric softener sheets. The do not stop all of the dust, but they do eliminate 80 to 90% of it. I change them once a month, same as furnace/air conditioner filters.

Well gee!

I was expecting something different from the title of this thread ...

:bump:

(not really)

Yuk!

Since I just moved my computer to the new spot, (I do it yearly). I always open it, vacuum it and clean the fans as much as I can.

That keyboard is disgusting.... And mice ....eeeew! Never use your keyboard as your tray! :isadizzy:

I think I just threw up.

I was, however, pleasantly surprised when I didn't find a grain of dust in my parents' PC. That thing hadn't been opened in three years!

My wife used to play mahjong at her friend's house in Navy housing. For a Filipina this girl was a terrible housekeeper and her house was Disney World for roaches. Not just the little German roaches but the big cockroaches with tattoos and spiked collars. I wouldn't let the wife back in the house until she had emptied her purse on the hood of the car and shaken out her clothes to make sure she wasn't carrying any livestock back to our place.

And I thought mine would get dirty... I don't feel so bad now when I go to clean it out every couple of months.

Actually, I was just into it installing a new power supply and didn't hardly have anything in there to clean up.

Moe, I've been there with the roaches. When I was stationed on the USS Lexington in the mid 70s, the galley was infested with them. Seemed like nothing they'd do would get rid of the things. Nothing like having one of the buggers get up into the middle of your plate and stand up on his hind legs to fight you over your food.

And don't get me started on my first wife's housekeeping.....

I was doing that too but it caused overheating problems in my pc, so I went back to the bi weekly cleaning routine.

Wow, those are great! Reminds me of the time I had to clean out my sister and brother-in-law's computer. It was completely messed up, not only from dust and dirt, but on the hard drives too!

My brother-in-law was a smoker, and apparently all he did was smoke at the computer. When I opened it up, the stench nearly made me gag. I immediately took it outside and used two cans of air to clean it out, disassembling it in the process. If I had thought I could get away with using a hose, I would have done that too. I had to replace one hard drive, but at least I got the crud (and that is a good description) of "nicotine coated parts" out. I took it back with a little "air-freshener" attached! :)

My advice... don't smoke around your computer equipment. Your lungs may end up looking like that!
