Disappearing visual models

As of late I haven't had much time to get on FSX very often. Something that keeps on occurring, is aircraft that I have legitimately purchased, have 50-80% of their visual models disappear... the way that is commonly done as a form of anti-piracy protection.

I really don't feel like uninstalling and reinstalling... especially all my repaints. What is an easy way to wake these aircraft up?

I've seen that a few times. What seems to help is turn off "aircraft shadows" on itself and maybe on the ground. I get it mostly if doing sunrise flights. I think it's a DX thing but haven't really checked that,

It can also happen when FSX can't display larger texture sizes, such as 4096x4096. Any parts using those textures are not displayed. This often happens when someone is using FSX 'straight from the box' without SP2 or Acceleration, for example.

If your Garphics card can stand it( hits FPS) you cabn edit the fsx.cfg (App data/roaming/Microsoft/Fsx.cfg-->YOU SURE BACKUP FIRST !!!!!! )

SHADER_CACHE_PRIMED=1693500672
TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=1024-->4096
NUM_LIGHTS=8
AIRCRAFT_SHADOWS=1
AIRCRAFT_REFLECTIONS=1

LANDING_LIGHTS=1

Not sure it is a good idea to increase TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD. This parameter is used for scenery/environment textures, it has no effect on the loaded size of flyable aircraft textures. If your aircraft has 4096 textures, they will be loaded, no matter what the value of TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD is. Besides that, any TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD value higher than 1024 potentially kills FPS.

I don't know if I can be much help, but for on-going FSX problems like this, details are everything:

(1) What variety of FSX are you using, box FSX with Sp2 or AccPack, or FSX-SE?

(2) What CPU and graphics card are you using? Is this a tower or a laptop?

(3) Are you using DX9 or DX10?

(4) Could you give an example of a couple of the planes this always happens to? Does it ever happen
to any of the default FSX planes? Does it happen at any airport you choose, or only at a particular
airport?

(5) What default aircraft are you using when you load FSX? If it's not a default FSX aircraft, try choosing
the default FSX Cessna C172 as you default load aircraft, and set for a completely different airport from
the one you normally load to, and see if that makes any difference.

Sorry for all the questions, I don't know if this will be of any help, but maybe the answers might twig someone
else to come up with a solution.

Thanks - Rob

Also a couple of other thoughts, in case it is a permissions/security issue (although these are pretty obvious):
make sure UAC is off or at it's lowest setting when flying FSX, and maybe set FSX as an exception in your
anti-virus exceptions.

As a last resort, you could try deleting your FSX .cfg file and let FSX build a new one. This would require you
to re-do all the permissions all over again (yes-yes, yes-yes, etc.). But make a back up copy of your old .cfg
file first. If building a new one doesn't have any effect, you can always delete the new one and paste the old
one back in, so you don't have to re-ro all the yes-yes's all over again.

Again, I don't know if this is any help at all, but just some thoughts.

Thanks - Rob

Just in case you did not already do so: You should run FSX as administrator, this cures several issues which can occur with addons.

I bought from Christmas sale Carenado's B1900D and there is one paint metallic blue (texture.10) that wont show up. There is only like a sceleton of airplane to be seen. Other paints are ok. Is that metallic blue to be seen only with DX10? Same thing happened with some old AI aircraft taken from FS2004. I think that the reason isn't the same for this new pw aircraft and those old fw AI planes. Default aircraft is the MS default Cessna.

Specs are: i7-3770K, 16GB RAM, Windows 7 Pro (64), GTX 660 2GB RAM and runnig FSX Acc. (FSX Gold package) with DX9.
