Disk Space?

I am about to become a DCS user and was curious how much space one should have on their hard drive to operate it. When I have looked at the modules available on the DCS website they all require the exact same amount of disk space...surely this can't be correct? I have around 400gb of space left on my drive so I would think that would be enough but given how all modules seem to be the exact same size I'm not entirely sure. I think I'd probably be looking at the F/A-18C, the Persian Gulf and Nevada Maps for now. Any suggestions?

Also if I want to use the F/A-18 and the F-16, which version of DCS do I need? the open beta or the stable one?

Kind Regards
Dale

My current install is 285GB. Welcome to the club! Keep in mind I have all of the maps installed and I own aprox 50% of all the aircraft. Paints are all 4k or in some cases 8K. So each paint can be upwards of 300mb depending on the aircraft in question. Tomcat paints are generally somewhere in this range if they are custom and high vis color version.

Hitting the range tonight and practicing using TGP to handoff to MAVs in PRE mode.

That's handy to hear. And wow that repaint looks stunning!!

Which version of DCS is to be used? The open beta or the stable?

Thanks in advance

I wouldn't use anything other than Open Beta. It gets all the updates first, including new aircraft at launch. And DCS has a nifty version switcher that allows you to roll back or forward to ANY version of the software that was released. So if they released a patch that screws up majorly, you can always revert easily.

The F-14A is about to release on 11/18 so.this is a great time to enter the mix if you purchase the Tomcat. It comes with A/B variants, the Forrestall class carrier and the A-6 as an AI AAR platform. Carrier is close to release and A6 is still in development but will debut soon.

Also recommend the WWII asset pack and Syria and NV maps are.excellent. also highly recommend the Super Carrier. Nothing comes close to this for Naval ops experience in a sim.

Brilliant, thank you so much for the responses. I think I will end up with the super carrier as you can't have the F/A-18 and no carrier.

@Dale. Super Carrier is worth Full price, if you can get it at discount great, but it's worth the full price. You won't be disappointed. You will be less than ecstatic with the old carrier.

Thanks for the responses guys. I have the F/A-18, Persian Gulf and Nevada. I think that'll be enough for me to get started with and get comfortable flying the aircraft and then I will get the super carrier, it does look amazing.

Dale
