DLP projectors are great, but.....

I have had my BENQ DLP projector since 2004. Not one bit of trouble with it; in fact, I have thoroughly enjoyed it.

A few months back, I noticed spots/shadows on my wall screen. At first, I thought the problem was dust on the projector lens. I was careful not to use anything but a cloth made for cleaning lenses, but that did not work.

Today I got the "bright" idea to take the case apart, thinking the problem was dirt/dust on the inside lens area. Well things did not go as planned (do they normally?).

I was able to remove the screws, but apparently there's more to removing the case cover, because it would not budge.

So I decided to use compressed air from a can I use for blowing dust from computer equipment.

Bad idea. Not only are the spots evident from the previous problem, but it is MUCH worse.

Naturally my warranty expired years ago. I emailed BENQ, asking them what it will cost me to have them clean the unit.

Sometimes things are best left alone!

At least I still have my 19" CRT monitor!!!!
