Do you actually land Aphibs on runways?

I have the scout 2007 package, Supercub from FSAddon and Quest Kodiak and they have Amphibian versions with landing gear/wheels that come out of the floats. You don't actually land those on runways do you? Or is that more for drive out of the water and up onto land kind of operations.

Charles.

They land them on land too, they where built for water and land operations.

Yep, had a Caravan in one of our hangars going through flight certifications for months due to the engine upgrade (Turbo). The airport is about 5 minutes flying time from the lake, so it was a short hop to get out there and back. . .spend all day on the lake (or above it) and then back home before he ran out of fuel. Definitely a land and water creature, it'll go just about anywhere. Float planes are just that, they float, period. . .but Amphibians will go both ways, lol.:salute:

I land them wherever I need to go... As most of my aircraft are land-based and seeing as most of my Amphibian time is spent in FSPassengers or checking out scenery mods, that usually means one trip runway to water, then a trip back water to runway. Usually, but not always, the one I started at, but yes, if I have an amphibious aircraft, I will operate it to and from any surface it can operate to and from!

I have a friend who has an amphibian and his home field is pure asphalt (KBKV). Yes, he takes off and lands on dry land though the middle of the flight may well land in water.

I land the amphibs like the PBY, Goose, and Albatross on land, because they have real normal looking landing gear. But those float-equipped planes with itty-bitty wheels on the floats – that looks more like beaching gear than landing gear, and I don't think I've ever tried it, even though I know they're meant to be landed on.

Yikes!

It just don't look like there is enough clearance to be safe but I guess it's done. Just looks scary to me. If something were to get wedged between the float and the asphalt, that sucker would spin and flip over! At least that's what it look like :)

Looking for an Amphib landing on a strip video.

Yep they land on runways all the time. That's why they are amphibians.

We used to have a Caravan on floats that would come and do practice approaches with touch n goes then go back to the harbor

Here are a couple Challengers taking off, not landing. Plenty of clearance, on a smooth runway.

Looks cool! I watched another video, "Judy's" first flights in a Challenger. . .man, that makes me want to get out and fly, looked like a blast. Thanks for posting!!

I miss Bill Lyons Challenger he did for FS9. I used to fly that quite a bit in FS.

I keep looking at the kits for the actual plane. For a sport class, and 51% build, it's actually quite an affordable little plane. I've always wanted an amphibian like in the video. We have lots of small lakes to explore around here.

For about a year some time back I was flying with a small group on a server in MP and all we flew was the Challenger using Holger's Glacier Bay Ver2. Man what a blast that was and Holger's scenery was just amazing for a freeware package. I always held out hope that he'd do an FSX version as well, but I don't think will happen.

Felt compelled to post this. Since we drifted into the subject of Challengers...

Tonight, I found this really great channel with videos of a Challenger a couple guys built and were flying:

One thing I noticed in watching the videos, the engine seemed balky, and never really sounded 'right' for a Rotax.

I was going to leave a comment on how much I enjoyed the videos, and noticed one user had simply commented, "R.I.P.".

Little internet exploration revealed that N732LS was lost with both gentlemen aboard due to engine failure near Redlands, CA this past September. Two months after the initial test flight in their first video.

It was really rather touching to see this. YouTube can do that sometimes, at least for me.
RIP Woody and Chad, it was nice of you two to share a little of your lives with us here on Earth to remember you by. Thank you. :engel016:

in the Video I couldnt help but notice when the camera looked back on the engine / carb.. does the fuel pipe look like it has air bubbles in it or is it just muck Im seeing on the outer surface.

Unless someone has actually tried it in FSX/SP2/Accel and found it just doesn't port. . .I'm thinking it might work there as well. Time to give it a shot I guess.:salute:

Boy, its was so long ago. Seems like it was the usual issues with the glass, prop, and the gauges. I know I didn't have time to fiddle with it. I bought it originally, so I'll pull it off of the backup drive right now and take a second look. Be great if it can be fixed.

I know with my Leza AirCam, the whole darn thing is invisible in Acceleration. I miss that one as well.
