Do you actually land Aphibs on runways?

The Republic SeaBee is an excellent general aviation amphib for FSX.
FSX - FSX General Aviation

FSX Republic RC-3 Seabee Amphibian

FSX Republic RC-3 Seabee Amphibian. Republic, better known for their military planes, commenced manufacture of the unusual RC3 Seabee amphibian in 1945 and ceased in 1947 after 1060 units had been made. In 1945 the U.S. Army Air Force and U.S. Navy placed orders for several thousand Seabees for war time air-sea rescue duties but these orders were cancelled when Japan surrendered in August 1945. Today (2009) over 250 Seabees are still registered and flying, mostly in private hands but a few still serve as air taxis and light freight bush planes. Complete package for FSX/SP2 (DX9 graphics) with full moving parts, 2D and VC panel, check and ref lists. A real fun plane, flies and floats beautifully. Two liveries included. By Jean-Pierre Brisard and Bob May - Premier Aircraft Design.

Available for FS9 also.

The Challenger has the black textures issue for sure in Acceleration. Seems like that is an easy fix?

EDIT: Upon further examination, looks like an alias and texture issue...

Bill Lyons was such a great craftsman of addons. Got some of the texture issues sorted out, but their are animation problems, panel glitches. It is a wonderful little aircraft, but it was never designed for FSX. I can fix easy stuff, but this one is beyond my skills. Oh well. :kilroy:

Dain, check the textures.

I don't know why, but FSX likes DXT3 better for portovers in lieu to 888-8 32-bit.

Props are the hardest thing for me to fix.

Back on topic.... Amphibs (Including the amphibious floats kind) land on runways all the time. When I worked at the airport, I had everything from a Super Cub on Amphibs to a Cessna Caravan and a Turbo Beaver on Amphibious floats stop by.

At KBTV (where I used to work) there is a C-185 on amphibs and the planes home base. There's also a couple of Lake Buccaneers there as well.

I've even seen a Cessna 180 on amphibs operating from a (very smooth) grass strip.

Below are some shots of Amphibs operating from the Basin Harbor Club Grass strip in VT during a fly-in

Okay, nothing really pressing this afternoon, so I'll do the conversions and see. Looks like the gauge .bmps need it too
Would really like to have this little amphibian version back in a small corner of the hangar. :mixedsmi:

Excitement

You should see how they launch strait float planes off a runway.:cost1: The aircraft is loaded on a dolly and then flown off said dolly. Do not, I repeat do not stand at the end of the runway:eek: I saw this done once at Gimli airfield after a ski to float conversion on a 185. Pretty darn interesting event.

Regards, Rob:ernae:

P.S. A pair of amphib floats can cost almost as much as the airplane sometimes:173go1:. Strait floats are relatively cheap by comparison.

It's possible that those areas were coded as part of the model and never actually textured. A lot of Ito Sans models had that and the problem turned out to be just that, no texturing just a color added in the mdl file.

There are parts that are hard coded for color, but they are really small. It really it wouldn't be that annoying, IMHO.
Textures worked great after being converted to DXT3.
Animation issues reported were strictly operator error. :redf:

But gauges are a still an issue. Textures are see through on some.
I think that can be fixed via FS Panel Studio, if I remember while fiddling around with the demo recently, but I don't have any extra money to buy that right now. It's on my list. Hopefully that will be rectified later this week.

I know. How does this all relate to this thread?

Bottomline is I really like amphibians, and this was one of my favorites in FS9 and feeling nostalgic. I've always liked the fact you can land where you want for the most part. Probably why I'm attracted to helicopters too. Kinda wish there was an A2A Cub amphibian, not just floats.

Definitely need more amphibians in FSX... :icon_lol:
