Do you prefer country living or city living?

The countryside is only useful for holidays.

So life is one long holiday - is that so bad ?

We live in a village of 800 souls. We have a shop and a pub. We all speak to each other - we can even talk to kids in the park without fear of arrest. I can leave my doors unlocked if I am away for the day and not worry. We can hear the birds sing.

How many of you city dwellers can say that ?

At least you have memories of the real old Orlando.

I seem to remember my uncle's house was on one of the lakes on the NE side of the first pieces of land that Disney started buying up. When the mom's & aunt's went to go shopping we stayed at the house, so I don't remember a lot of the details of the downtown area at the time.

I do remember when Sarasota was all cows and oranges and there was no I-75. The only way to get to Tampa was either 301 or the Tamiami Trail. I loved it back then. We kept our horses in a pasture on the road leading to the southern Siesta Key bridge. We didn't think twice about riding out to the key and up the beach road. The police back then didn't even mind us riding them in the town areas on the main roads at night as long as we had some sort of tail light hanging off their rear ends. :)

I love the amenities and the like of living in the city, but I prefer the yard-size and space of in the country.

OBIO, I grew up in Washington County - so I know what you're talking about. :D My hometown is around 1200 people and shrinking.

Dyer, Tennessee was about 1200 people when I moved here 8 years ago. Probably about 1000 now. I live about a mile out of town.

I was raised about 5 miles from Genoa Arkansas and our nearest neighbor was about a mile straight through the woods and 2 miles if you went by road. Where I'm at now, is like city living to me.

I've lived in New Orleans for several years so I know what it's like in a big city. I much prefer where I'm at now and can have my horses.

Don't lock my house or car.

Probably not something advisable, living in a city, eh?

Very quiet here. Occasionally the neighbor's wife will let loose with a few expletives, but mostly just birds singing, and the occasional bark from a dog down the road.....

"Green acres is the place to be.
Farm livin' is the life for me.
Land spreadin' out so far and wide.
Keep Manhattan, just give me that countryside."

Green Acres wouldn't be bad at all as long as the girls still live near by. :)

a long, long time ago, i rented a trailer on a gigantic farm. i lived on the far corner of it, so my neighbor was about 3/8 mile away on the other side of the property line. the road that took me there had 4 turns. my neighbors driveway, mine, the horse barn, and further down the road a piece, a beer joint. friday night at about 6 pm brought the sound of mopeds wizzing by my trailer on the way to the beer joint. all the dui kings rode mopeds because they had no license.

I am already boring myself to death in a city with 50000 inhabitants. So go figure...

Bjoern, dear boy, if the city girls have lost their allure, come to the country.

We have some very lovely sheep here..........:jump:

Oh man, FAC... that was years and yearssss ago...
If I go to Tampa, I use the highways only because it is faster,
But toll charges are too much, man..
When are they going to stop charging tools on our Florida highways?

...And yes, I remember Orlando to be a country once then,
When Disney was still in the planning, (1971 when Magic kingdom opened)
man, we are talking history here...
hold on, I am getting old all of a sudden!

My wife and I prefer small town or rural living, even though I don't know that our current area of residence still qualifies as such. Lots of people moving to our little area, houses and apartments have been and are still being built, mostly because of good schools. Anyway, when the misses and I travel, we often look at small towns as possible retirement spots. I think it would be ideal to have a house just outside of a small town, close enough to police, fire, ems, shopping, but just far enough out to have some land, peace, and quiet.

200 meters to the north is a forest, 200 meters to the south is the city. Not a very big city (60,000+ people) but big enough for me!

:d

Lovely and simple?

(If I want country girls, I'll just take some from this town. Seriously, this isn't a city but a big village. *Grr*)
