Do you think this was going to far?

I didn't watch the video, I did read the article ... And though I think what I see is probably "excessive use of force" I'm going to have to chalk the actions/reactions of the guard up to an inability to exercise proper restraint of his position.

Any more, attitude of people in the world is just that, trending more and more toward violence for even the slightest of infractions. I do believe its going to get much worse before it'll get any better though. Unfortunately.

A number of years back, I held the vaulted position of Assistant Manager at the local Salvation Army Thrift Store....yes, I know you all envy me for that LOL! One day, I was coming off my lunch break and headed up to the register to see if the Manager or the Cashier needed a break. Both women were trying to communicate with a deaf lady...and doing a horrible job of it. Firstly, neither of these women had what I would call good people skills....especially the manager, who was generally referred to by customers and staff using the 5 letter word for a female dog. They were both being very rude in their attempt to communicate with this lady...and the lady was on the verge of tears. When I walked up to the register, the gal grabbed a hold of my arm like she was in deep water and I was there to save her life. It took me 5 minutes to convince the manager and the cashier to go away and let me handle the situation...they both felt that they could more easily communicate with her since they were also women. Once the manager and cashier left the area, I was able to get the lady calmed down and to find out that she simply needed to use the bathroom.

deffenitly way to much force used considering he wasnt exactly fighting back in anyway whatsoever .... and the length he held him as well ..... someone needs to go back to training :kilroy:

That's a bad deal all the way 'round. I wonder if the security guy just flat out tackled him after they walked out or if he tried to stop the individuals and identify who he was first..

I worked loss prevention at a retail chain right out of college and we would always approach the person and identify ourselves and ask them to come back into the store with us. I only worked there 1 1/2 years, but in all that time I only had to put one person on the ground that wanted to resist, and it was a woman at that !!!

Cannot rush to judgement from a video that does not show what led up to the incident. It looks untidy, but trying to restrain someone who does not want to be restrained and not hurting them is a heck of a lot harder than one may think. Exacerbated by probably inadequate training. Companies want security, but they don't want to pay for it and as a result store guards are minimum wage earners.

If the coustomers had been African-Americans and the store security had been white, this would be all over the news. Jackson and Sharpton would be falling over each other just to get to the press, crying "outrage". This type of reaction is outrageous regardless who does it.

I'd say excessive force was used. The guy in the head-lock could have been seriously injured or even killed, you could see how red his face was. Legitimate grounds for a lawsuit against the store and the security company.

I was disgusted and shocked when I saw the vid...I am deaf too. I fell rather p***ed off (sorry for the bad language but I felt so mad) seeing the lack of realisation on the cops' part that the men were deaf. I thought that the force being used was way over the top. Fortunately I speak and hear with the aid of a cochlear implant, but these men don't and communicate with only sign language. Seems like an unfortunate misunderstanding and wrong judgement on the cops' part occured . The deaf men simply didn't hear the alarms when they walked out with their shopping bags. I hope they will have an interpreter with them to speak for them when questioned by the authorities.

When I see what I feel is definately undo force, when the guy is turning purple and cannot breath, I get p-----d off. If it were me, I would start fighting for my life as I would think the nut holding me down is trying to kill me. I am going to do what I can to survive. I see things like this and it freaks me out.

I was SHOCKED to say the least. That security guard should be fired and tossed in a damned cell. What an IDIOT! I hope they sue the balls off of the store, the guard, the guard company, and anyone else who thought this was appropriate. If I would have witnessed this, I would have had to have jumped in. I'd let the jury figure out my fate. Wouldn't be hard to walk. I expect these two will become fairly rich over this. Damned idiot rent-a-cop! Just my two cents.
