Does anybody know Andrew?

Hello from CFS3-land!

I've been looking at my CFS2 installs and wondering if I can't improve them, so I went to Simviation, and found that some chap called Andrew had chopped up by carefully researched CFS3 Spitfire skins to use on his CFS2 productions. Those who also fly in CFS3 may recognise my style of painting.

I have no memory of authorising this, and given the historical inaccuracy of what he has done with them, I wouldn't have allowed it. One example is a Desert Air Force Spitfire IX to which he has added invasion stripes... This makes an utter mockery of all the extremely hard work which went into identifying each aircraft I painted, serial numbers, squadron assignments, etc, in order to ensure that everything was historically accurate.

Here we have a No.1 Squadron South African Air Force aircraft with invasion stripes for example. If that doesn't make you cringe, nothing will.

Does anybody know who he is? I would like to talk to him.......

You are likely looking for the work of CFS3 community member and developer Andrew Madison (also active under "Andrew" in CFS3 groups) who has contributed numerous aircraft repaints, historical ETO (European Theater of Operations) add-ons, and skin-modding assistance.

Have you downloaded any of his repaints and maybe he has an email addy in a readme file?

No, I did look. He simply signs it as Andrew, with no contact details.

It looks as though all his Spitfires have been bodged together by chopping up my CFS2 skins.

His read-me ends with 'Have fun' - which is what I'm now seeing on Andrew Wai's aircraft, having looked a bit further.

I just saw this post. The aircraft and texture files were downloaded a long time ago. There were no readme file inside. Here is the content in one of those aircraft. I don't remember when I had downloaded them. I always give credit to the designer when I used their files. It was so long ago. I don't remembered whether I had tried to contact you or I got no reply from you. I did try to contact some other designers and got no replies. I did give you credit as the designer of those texture files. I remembered Shessi told me that I should give credit to all the designers before using or modifying their files if I got no replies from them.

I just found your readme file from another package:

You MUST first install the SJ Spitfire Mk VIII and Mk VII, as this addon uses the shared files from that aircraft. If you do not install the Mk VIII, you will have no cockpit textures.

You must also install the shared texture files, guns, sounds, weapons and pylons from the base set for the Spitfire F.MkIXc (Spitfire F.MkIXc_Early_Production_RAF_RCAF_and_RAAF.zip) which can be found here:

http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links.php?catid=80

You must also ensure you have the AvHistory weapons, guns and pylons. These are included in MAW and ETO but may be downloaded separately for installation into basic CFS3.

These aircraft will not work if you do not follow the above steps.

This uses a new Mk.IX-specific cockpit NOT PREVIOUSLY USED with the initial base set mentioned above. If you wish to use it to replace the cockpits included in the base set, copy and paste it into the Model folder of each aircraft and rename it to replace the existing cockpits. No further modification is needed.

The aircraft's sound alias is set up to work directly in MAW and ETO and refers to the following folder: DR_Engine_Sounds\BR_Engine_Merlin_ XX_V_12\Sound

If you do not have these engine sounds, you may alias to the stock CFS3 Spitfire or to the SJ series Spitfire VIII. The alternative sound alias files are included in the initial base download referred to above.

The AI Version is deliberately left "visible" in the QC menu so you can choose it as enemy, but the name used begins with ~. This places it at the end of the list; it is NOT for player use, and does not have a cockpit. It carries added weight to compensate for the fact that AIs in CFS3 are not "calculated" as having either a fuel load or pilot. This goes some way to addressing that by adding extra weight using a dummy pylon.

The flight model is an AvHistory 4.00 model reworked to reflect the characteristics of the Mk.IX airframe and the Merlin 70 engine. It is designed to be used with flight settings at hard.

There is no reason why this should damage your computer or your install of CFS3 in any way, as long as it is installed strictly according to the instructions above. If you do not read the instructions and follow them rigidly to the letter, please do not trouble me with "It won't work" e-mails or PMs. If you can't get it to work first time, delete it all and start again rather than trying to patch it up. Ensure you back up your sounds.xml before modifying it.

Well, I'm not going to get into a fight about it, especially as we've dealt with this by private message, but there IS a read-me with the file, which is here: https://sim-outhouse.org/sohforums/...3-63a-66-66-25lbs-boost-70-for-maw-zip.20682/

The read-me is as usual quite comprehensive, and details each aircraft. I think it is important to note that each aircraft has been extremely carefully researched...

While all the above aircraft use the same basic airframe, there are differences in engines. Spitfire F.MkIX (Merlin 61, 63, 63A) LF.MkIX (Merlin 66, Merlin 66 +25lbs boost) and HF.MkIX (Merlin 70) aircraft are all represented.

Skins are based wherever possible on photographs rather than profiles, as we have found many profiles to range from pure fantasy to wildly inaccurate. For your interest, we have included some of the photographs which have inspired this collection. These are included in each aircraft's folder rasther than separately.

The aircraft model itself suffers from a number of inaccuracies which we have not been able to address; no Spitfire IX had a radio aerial stretching from the aerial mast to the rudder; this has been removed, but the triangular attachment tab at the top of the mast should no longer be there either.
The IFF antenna under the wing should not be there on early and mid-production aircraft. There should instead be aerial wires running from the mid-fuselage to the tailplanes. The wide dual-cannon bulge on the wing uppersurfaces was used only on the early aircraft, and was replaced by a narrower single-cannon cover.

Do not let these details mar your enjoyment of what is nonetheless a very convincing model.

INSTALLATION:

You MUST first install the SJ Spitfire Mk VIII and Mk VII, as this addon uses the shared files from that aircraft. If you do not install the Mk VIII, you will have no cockpit textures.

You must also install the shared guns, sounds, weapons and pylons from the base set for the Spitfire F.MkIXc (Spitfire F.MkIXc_Early_Production_RAF_RCAF_and_RAAF.zip) which can be found here:

http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links.php?catid=80

We have NOT included these in order to avoid confusion and double entries in the relevant xml files.

Each aircraft uses the 'custom' gun sounds and gun files included with the initial Spitfire Mk.IXc release referred to above. CFS3 is not cooperative with gunfire sounds, and you may find these do not always work. When they do, it is worthwhile,
but in order to ensure CFS3-normal gunfire sounds in any case, half the guns on each aircraft have been left using CFS stock sounds.

For those who prefer to use only stock gun sounds, copy and paste the following lines into the xdp files of the aircraft, replacing the existing lines. Ensure you do not duplicate or remove the tags.

Cut...

You must also ensure you have the AvHistory weapons, guns and pylons. These are included in MAW and ETO but may be downloaded separately for installation into basic CFS3.

Allow the included alternative sound.cfg files to overwrite those in each aircraft's sound folder.

These aircraft will not work correctly if you do not follow the above steps. They will of course work in other installs than MAW as long as you ensure that the ancillary files are present and the sound aliases are valid.

Bear in mind that Britain is the spawning nation in MAW. AI aircraft are therefore listed under Britain. For use in any other install of CFS3, you may need to change the entry in the aircraft's XDP file from Country="britain" to Country="USA" using Windows Notepad. Delete any bdp file you may find in the aircraft's folder.

The flight model is an AvHistory 4.00 model reworked to reflect the characteristics of the Mk IX airframe and appropriate engines.

Anyway, please do not use any of my material in the future, at least without asking and letting me see it first.

Having said that, many thanks for all the good work you do for CFS2.

Best wishes, Nigel
