I haven't gotten "teary-eyed" in quite some time......now its been twice in two days........yesterday in the E.R. and today when I saw all of your comments, prayers, and best wishes. You guys (and gals) are THE BEST!!

Baby Max came home today :jump: . The best Pediatric plastic surgeon that the UNC Childrens Hospital has on staff came in and worked on his little face for several hours. They kept him overnite.

Amazingly, the kiddo is in good spirits, despite the drugs in his system .
Mom and Dad went blank when I asked about the number of stitches but it has to be well over 100 (visible).

Now, for the dog : my daughter rescued "Jake" as a puppy about ten years ago. He has been a very faithful, "non agressive" (except for cats) companion for all this time. When Max was born there WAS some concern
about Jake's reaction and a dog "specialist/trainer/expert" was hired to visit on a monthly basis and monitor the relationship. Everything seemed fine until the moment of attack.
The three of them went for a walk...Jake on his leash, Max in his stroller.
Alyssa stopped and turned her back to look at something and all hell broke loose....the stroller was down and Jake had Max's face in his mouth.

Jake is now in quarantine for ten days ( NC law ).....after which, he will probably be put down.

Hey All,

I have not commented until now.

- Nothing I hate more than seeing children hurt - no matter what the cause. Having two of my own I know the pain. I hope Max recovers well.

- As young as Max is hopefully the scarring will not be permanent. I don't know but doubt if a child that young will remember it and so the mental scarring will likely be minimal - knock on wood. I was bit on and behind the ear by my grandparents German Shepard as a very small child. I carried a scar for years - now gone. I don't recall the incident at all.

- I hope the parents aren't too scarred by this to ever have a dog again. Max - like all children will benefit from having a dog around.

- Dogs like Jake - but actually most all dogs - generally really can't be trusted with small children. Jealousy and the fact that there are no equals in a dogs world dictates this. The fact that the dog did this can be seen as one of the most vile things a trusted "family member" can do but it is critical to remember that a dog is an animal - subject to the behaviour of animals - not humans. Why humans lend human traits to dogs is beyond me - at the end of the day they are still dogs - kin to wolves.

- I wish this family well in coming to grips with this family tragedy - I just hope they and Max don't "give up" on dogs.

LD, very sorry to hear about this incident but I'm glad Max's treatment went OK and his morale is good. Little tots are pretty resilient and hopefully his injuries will heal up without lasting scars. Keep us posted on how he's doing.
 
Some times Dogs snap, I don't know why. A family going after family is hard. It's best that the dog be put down I'm afrad.

Hopefully he don't become afrad of all dogs after this.:frown:.
 
i hope the boy will be ok. my grandson was bitten in the face last year by a coon hound (he was 2 then) and he seems none the worse for wear emotionally. we will continue to pray for your family.
 
Outstanding news I will maintain a prayer vigil for the little guy. So sorry about the dog but I think it is wise to put him down.

Thanks for the update! Like mentioned previously, hearing about a little one getting hurt is always heartbreaking. I'm just happy little Max is hanging in there and doing better. Quite the little man you have there! Such a cutie pie too!

Sometimes it's just difficult to understand why a pet turns its back on a family member like that...just sad all the way around.

I am glad to hear Max came out of surgery well and that a real pro was there to work on him. A good blessing.


I agree that the dog should be put down. I am very much for that. I love dogs, but just like some humans, some dogs go over the edge and do horrible things.

Max is on my prayer list. I will pray for him every day. I pray the healing of God is upon him and that he will have good dreams and a speedy recovery and his wounds will disappear.

Amazingly, children at a young age are blessed with very good healing abilities. I have heard amazing stories. I pray this is especially so in this case.

Children are extremely resilient. He'll bounce back with no physical problems most like Glen.

I worry about the fear of dogs in his life now. Would be a shame.

Glad to see he's doing alright though!
