Dont you wish....

Seeing all these great WWII planes done for FS, dont you wish someone could create an addon that would turn a Flight Simulator into a CFS simulator? Something that could add missions, squadrons that you fly with, enemy planes, shooting, etc, into FS...

Man... What if....!

I always felt it was a waist of time to develop two flight sims.

They should have developed one with combat as an option...

Of course some wack-o would have mounted rocket pods on a C172.

I always wondered why they couldn't take the normal FS engine and turn it into a combat sim... I thought CFS3 was just a step in the wrong direction....

I want that Sim Bill...That would be tons of fun...

Yeah it would...

Once more, all the scenery and planes in FS9 could retrofit into it. So all those WWII airbases Cees made would fit in it. Trucks, tanks, planes.. . And Cessna's with rocket launchers! :d

CFS 1 and 2 were much more compatible with FS. That's one reason they are still around. I get a lot of my warbirds for FS9 by converting CFS 2 aircraft.

I often thought over it...
combination of civilian and combat flight simulator...
and never understood why they didn`t do that

There was a bunch of us that wanted to see B-17 Flying Fortress "The Mighty 8th" updated with better graphics and multiplayer added. A2A was going to work on it but Hasbro/Atari wanted too much control, and did not want to give up certain elements of MicroProse's game engine. So all of A2A's plan were canceled.

As I've said before, Microsoft has the perfect solution to the dilema of combat in a flying simulation..... FS. Why not, look at all the excellent warbirds made for FSX and FS9. All that's needed is to decide which one to do it with.

i agree. from the start i have wondered why there were 2 sims. if fsx was a combat sim that would be the bees knees! of course if you could do it with fs9, i might be able to run it on this computer.

I'll say!
If someone is clever enough to mess with the compiler...well, now...FS9+CFS2: we are talking in excess of 60% of the flightsim community here ;)

Unfortunately, nope..

I tried negotiating with Aces / Microsoft many years ago for use in making FS2020 and FSMars. They would only negotiate with FSX and I only wanted FS9.

I heard recently they tried doing FSMars.. It was in the basic works when Aces was shut down.

Nope.. I have no 'works' for making an 'adapter' that would convert FS into a new CFS.

The other side of the coin

1.
Next Alphasim payware offer will be a Sepecat Jaguar GR.1 / GR.3
and it will be FS9 native ( ! ) including all foreing air arms versions.

( my next buy ! )

2.
Vit Storch ( Kyrypust ) of Czech Republic is still working on a freeware
Aero L-39C Albatross that will be FS9 native and will certainly be very
very popular when it will be made available.

3.
Ivan Jurcaga's "Mig Projekty" team of Czech Republic is working on a Full VC freeware Mig-21Bis Fishbed N that will be FS9 native and adapted for FSX too.

4.
GMax Ac Mirage 2000 family and Kirk Olsson's F-16 have been updated
by Eric Marciano with a very good payware "Hud & Radar" suite.

5.
On Flightsim.Com, FS9 repaint files are updated daily with numerous
new offers for both Civil, Military and Scenery chapters.

On comparaison, FlightSim.Com FSX repaint files are almost dead
with some repaint offers only from time to time.

6.
I have both FS9 and FSX installed on a super powerfull PC and I am
on the FS9 application 80 % of my flightsim time.

Why ?

Time to download FSX applications compared to FS9 plus the fact that
FSX have almost none military air bases sceneries contraty to FS9.

7.
I agree that FSX have some real advantages but the FSX disavantages are by far bigger and I really think that FSX real usage among flightsimmers is a myth !

From what I've read here most people cannot run FSX flat out with a good PC. If you were to add all the capabilities of FSX and CFS together where would our frame rates be, 2? 6? with all sliders to minimum. Even FS9 and CFS together would be tough. But I admit it sure would be nice if it could be done and work well on an average PC.

And from the other direction, if you can put up with the gunsight CFS2 is pretty good as a non-combat sim. All the navaids are available.

with the talent and energy in the community i dont see why the necessary elemnts to make FS9 a working action sim might not be possible, many objects and planes are destroyable, complex communication and multiplayer is now availalbe and i would think that working projectile and weapons systems exist already or could be made. Group and formation flights and AI craft already exist.... and the scenery in FS9 is worlds and worlds ahead of any of the Combat Flight sims, even CFS3 is hard to make new maps and to add realistic details to landscape....really due to the texture format problems...

i think it is possible Lionheart and i would love to see it.

I totally agree.
