DoughBree L-39C (FSX)

Getting a white painted finish to look 'right' is harder than the metal. I have a feeling 255,255,255 doesn't behave will in spec...possibly needs to be a bit off-white...

attachment.php

Needless to say the weather clouded over and got me on the wrong track...;)

Pure black or white is always problematic with spec maps (that's why I never use it as a base color for fuselages). Try 235, 235, 235.

Matt is still working on the default liveries and decals, right?
Appears so. I haven't heard from him re them since he'd done such a great job on the linework and rivets...)

But meanwhile I'm honing my layers to suit the HD res properly and as accurately as is possible...;)

Found a 'minor' issue with the model [using the bump/spec one, of course]...
Seems the L39 is not an all-weather aircraft. When it rains the canopy is a not very translucent green from the outside....and a totally black non transparent from the VC.
Climbing out of the rain cures it...;)

This is a known problem and there is a fix for it over at Flight1 in their free downloads section.

I can't say I'd noticed the issue at any time before so had attributed it to the specific model.
Either way, thanks for the heads up [needless to say it's stopped raining now]...;)

That's interesting. I've had a look over there but have gone round in circles. Could you post a link to it please:encouragement:

EDIT: Found it Ed;) Now to see what it does. Like all the other BK117 users who see the problem, we only see it with the BK117.. no other model.

Stop. The model is FSX native and does not support FS9's rain system. Hence, the F1 rain fix will do zilch.

I'm using a custom, static rain texture for representing rain on the canopy, which is included in the latest version of the model.

Note: If the texture is present, but still not showing and you're running DX10 mode, you're out of luck as I can't support DX10.

Bjoern ...t'was my mistake...had always just been grabbing the model as it was updated...and forgot to check what was in the 'texture.shared'.

/me goes sit in the corner and wears pointy hat...;)

I've not tried the L-39 in the rain.. didn't want to get it wet:biggrin-new:

I did install the F1_fsx_vcrain fix mind you and it's fixed the otherwise duff Nemeth BK117;)

Yep, my mistake!

I've lost the plot here. The Nemeth BK117 is also FSX native.. it's their latest model!! The F1_fsx.vcrainfix fixed the problem with that. I don't see where FS9 rain effects comes into it. I don't run DX10 either.

Never mind.. I'm sure you know what you're talking about:mixed-smiley-010:

Dave...when Bjoern was releasing updates of his model reworking to become FSX native one of the updates included VC rain effects which also required the use of the included bitmaps for the texture.shared folder of the L39. I hadn't added those images to my install so things went screwy in the rain.

If a plane in your install has issues with rain effects and isn't supposed to [being native] then it could be a similar reason...missing graphics. If that patch thingie worked for it then it may mean the model wasn't as entirely 'native' as it could be.

BTW...my L39 now gets happily wet...and I'm not using the patch...;)

Right on fella:encouragement:

Not wanting to drag this OT any further.. Nemeth denied there was a problem at all yet more than a few of us saw it. By way of a quick test.. I installed it on my old WinXP PC which is also FSXA.. the glass was fine in rainy/foggy conditions so why it played up on my Win7 Ultimate PC remains a mystery. I've posted a link to the fix over at Nemeth so at least ONE of the MANY bugs with the 117 can be put to bed.
