Douglas A20 Havoc

The P-70's used the rear gunner position for the radar operator so I added one fine radar operator and added in 6-50 cal MGs as an option for the P-70A2. Usually I see 2-50 caliber chin guns with the 4-20mm cannon pods but you will have the option to appoint these your way.

I believe this completes the options for the P-70's.

Very impressive Milton! I have been able to read the messages for two weeks, but couldn't see the images. Now I can see the images I can fully understand everybody's reaction on them.

Thanks,
huub

Ah, thank you Huub. Had I known that, I would have uploaded to Dropbox and posted links.

I am now back working to finalize the original "G35" model interior (with motorized turret).

Once that is done, I will do final prep work to get all of them ready for the Paint Shop of Artistes Extraordinaire.

Meanwhile, a screenshot of the P-70A1 before I put it aside.

Thanks for your comments. I am reviewing the 4 models for anything else that needs to be done before shipping them off to the paint shoppe. :wiggle:

A plan of work is beginning on the panel and gauge layout. Thank you Spokes2112. :applause:

We have some custom xml logic to evolve to manage munitions, tanks and crew selections.

And now time to revisit and evolve the flight model.

So, here we are, gathered to coordinate our plans. :biggrin-new:

Just look at the TEETH on that thing! Hmmm. I don't think you have room for all those teeth and the radar array in the nose cone of that plane but she sure looks like she could put the fear of the devil into something..., and let loose with a few bombs after chewing up the target with those guns. lol! I'm enjoying watching and following this thread tremendously.:very_drunk:

Apparently there was room Tom as shown in the attached. I wouldn't have modeled this if I did not have RW examples to show the configuration. :)

EDIT: I had forgotten, but just read it again. On the P-70A1 and A2 models, the radar units were mounted in the bomb bay.

I found a few other pics in my stash of P-70's with various nose cannon/gun configurations with the radar antenna on the nose with the radar unit mounted in the bomb bay.

Here is the best of them.

Amazing that the impact of those guns firing didn't mess up the radar antenna reception...she's a real cutie with a big stinger in front!

Ted,

I thought the same thing but the cannons were used for ground work and I suspect the radar was off then since they were used to find bogeys in the air.

The first P-70 was A-20C based, had the plexiglas painted over with radar in the nose, some with antennas mounted on the wings, and the 4-Cannon pod is under the bomb bay.

The second one shown is the A2 based on the early solid-nosed G model. The nose-mounted 20mm cannons are mounted with flash suppressors installed.
The 20mm cannons had jamming issues and these were later replaced with 4-.50 cal. MGs or various other combos including side-mounted MG pods outside the cockpit.

Just an update after some quiet time of due diligence.

The models are off to the Firekitten paint shop as we continue working on custom animations and move into the panel and gauge work.

The four exterior models have many configurations available, and most of that work is now done.

We will be busy for awhile but know that we are working diligently every day to bring this project to fruition.

Thanks for being patient.

I can hardly wait to see the end result!
Ted

Thanks Ted; they are shaping up nicely with features and options, even the flight model is representative of the POH handling notes and a good hand-flyer.

I am looking forward to seeing the textures begin to take shape as Spokes2112 fleshes out the panel and gauges, and effects.

BTW, I received my new case fans today. :) They look great.

The four models were sent to the paint shop 4 weeks ago but real world priorities have limited the progress. We'll just have to be patient on this one.

Meanwhile Spokes2112 and I have taken a breather to rejuvenate after some pretty heavy custom programming progress on model load-outs regarding munitions, crew, weight, and fuel. Work has begun on gauges now.
