Downloaded Aircraft

Is there a way to have aircraft the the user as downloaded so up in the traffic pattern? I have downloaded the B.A. L-1011, an A.A. DC-10 and a couple other commercial air liners as well as military craft and only the default aircraft that came with the game are used...Don't think the Dash 8 is going to be in the traffic pattern on a regular basis. Or how do you use downloaded aircraft as static. I have a couple that are useless and don't leave the ground....

There will be others who will outline exactly what you need to do, but basically the aircraft you want to have show up as AI must first be incorporated into the "traffic" bgl file. . .it requires a program called TTools among others and a whole lot of patience.

Downloaded aircraft can not actually be static. Only scenery objects can be static

The work around is to make a flight plan for an AI aircraft and have it only fly once a week.

I would work on getting one of the default planes working as AI before trying to do a downloaded aircraft.

FS2002/FS2004 TrafficTools v2.02. This package allows you to program the AI traffic. You can view and modify existing AI flight plans or create new ones. You can change aircraft models, tail numbers and flight numbers. You can create new AI flight schedules and increase or modify the type of traffic at selected airports and generally make the AI traffic do what you want, within limits. TTools is now a single program that can both compile and de-compile By Lee Swordy. (Previous version had 36363 downloads.)

Also in order for the aircraft to show up the departure airport must have an available parking spot for it.

If you find your airport does not have parking you can add parking with Airport Design Editor. Its free in most respects.

I saw an Airlines.cfg file as well. Can I add real airlines to that file?

Ok. I will just leave everything the way it is....I am having a hard enough time finding planes I want that actually work.

I thought what was wanted was to have other AC in the traffic flow, not static. Replacing AI is not too difficult as long as you go slow, creating new is more challenging. As mentioned, you need TTools by Lee Swordy. That program simply opens the traffic bgl file (stock is traffic030528 in Flight Simulator 9/Scenery/World/Scenery) into 3 editable files that handle all stock AI in FS9. Changing an aircrafts title and maybe a couple or three other parameters should make the new AC show as AI. Most issues that crop up doing this can be avoided by swapping similar AC, like don't swap a 747 for a Piper Cub. Other issues might need more addressing because AC configured to fly by the user might not fly well as AI, and if they can't do that they will disappear quickly. Seeing is not always believing too. If you think an AI you see do nothing is useless, it may only be scheduled to fly once per week or the airport may have a flaw preventing normal behavior so don't give up on it too fast. My advice would be to experiment with one thing at a time after looking at some tutorials and don't forget to save copies of original files as you go.

I downloaded the TTools and was able to open the flightplan text file but I do not have the time or patience to sit and figure things out. I saw a link for a group who already had commercial flights created that could be downloaded however that site is no longer available. So unless someone else knows where I can get these downloadable flight plans, I am just going to leave it as it is.....Had to much trouble getting certain plans to fly and work right after 4 times of reinstalling the game because certain addon planes caused my working addons to fail. So I am leaving it alone...thanks for your help everyone. I do appreciate it and if in the future when I get more familiar with the game I may change it up some..

I figured it out...I was able to put my C-130 flight plan into the traffic file however I found that you have to use the commercial airports....None of the Air Bases are listed in the airport txt file although they can be flown to in the game and have their ouw tower frequencies....I was not able to get a the C-130 to depart from Dover AFB to Charleston AFB but I will go from BWI to the civilian airport at Charleston as they share the base....Even Andrews AFB will not work...thank every for your help...I have it working great

You want military AI? Ah, there is an easy answer to that one!!

Creating your own traffic files is the easy bit - but you have to realise that doing so is very addictive.
Look at the MAIW packages.

You're not getting your AI to show up at the stock military airports because the stock FS9 installation doesn't have any military AI, so the stock military airports don't have any taxiways or parking spaces for AI planes. That makes it impossible to load an AI plane there. You may have already noticed that you can get an AI plane to land there, but it won't park; it will just taxi off the runway and disappear. :pop4: That's because there's no taxiway to follow and no parking space to go to and park in.

You have two choices. One is to install add-on ,military airports. As has been suggested, MAIW's air bases are excellent, but they may not have done the bases you want to run AI at. Or you may want to depict a different time period, so you might use their air bases with different planes.

Your other alternative is to use Lee Swordy's AFCAD program to add your own taxiways and parking spaces to the stock military airports. The instructions that come with AFCAD and Traffic Tools will teach you all you need to know about AI and how to set it up. You can get AFCAD at the same places mentioned earlier to find Traffic Tools. The two programs are a set. There are newer programs that will do the same things as AFCAD, but I don't know if they're any easier to use; I don't know how they could be.

You've already been warned, so beware! Fiddling with AI is extremely tedious, extremely time consuming, and can become extremely addictive!

I use TTOOLS to replace aircraft in an existing flightplan in FS9, otherwise AIFP.
AIFP for all things FSX.

I added the MAIW and I am now able to use my C-17, C-130 and B-52 out of Dover AFB. However the C-5A still does not show up but it shows up on the Tarmac at Seattle/Tacoma...and it taxi and take....The C-5's show up as static aircraft with the addition of the MAIW files...If the plane can fly out of Seattle, It can fly out of Dover...Heaven knows they fly over my house all the time in real life.....anyway thank everyone for your help...I have things working pretty good.
