DSD Simulations Freeware Avro Anson Released!

On Sunday, July 20th, the Practically Geek Youtube channel will be having a live stream preview of the freeware Avro Anson being done by DSD Simulations for MSFS 2024 - which sounds like it will be released soon. As I'm sure others will recognize, these are conversions of the FSX FSAddon Ansons.

Nice! We can start with the Tiger Moth, progress to the Anson, and then finally proceed to the Lancaster!

(We also need a Wellington to do the full sequence including OTU, plus we also just need a damn Wellington!)

This looks fantastic. Really excited to see this coming.

Wow looks great especillay for freeware , I saw the real thing once at Ardmore, Auckland (at the Mosquito debut show)...wish I caught more of it before it headed overseas

I remember going to Old Warden and Duxford to take photographs for Simon Smeiman when he first built these. It was a very nice package and, like his Lockheed Hudson, filled with easter-egg click spots. Looking forward to it.

Hi all! Somehow managed to miss this thread!

Glad you're all excited for the Anson! It's very close to being ready (110% before the end of the month).

We'll be initially including the airworthy Mk1 and C19 variants, but we may well include some of the other, more obscure variants down the line - there are many models in the original pack!

I'm sure you can all work out what's potentially to come from the DSD freeware line, given we've been given permission to re-release the anson ;)

I see the comment about the Wellington. The short story is we already have one ready to go at a moments notice, the longer story is it's from the First Class Simulations stable and, like their lancaster, we're unable to release it without their permission which we are simply unable to obtain. Nobody from FCS or their new company Excalibur has responded to any request from us sadly. If anyone's able to help make contact, we'll gladly release it!

But still, only 2024? Nothing for 2020?

I think there's been some mis-reporting there. All our aircraft are designed for 2020, which makes them compatible with 2024.

I personally don't even have 2024 installed!
Thanks for informing us. I've moved the thread to the appropriate board then.

Just don't shoot this messenger - I had only seen the vlogger, Practically Geek, refer to it as MSFS 2024 freeware. :)

As someone who uses and enjoys both sims, I'm very glad to hear that it is being developed for use in MSFS 2020, and therefore can be used in both 2020 and 2024. Thank you DSD/Redmill!

Nobody's shooting John! I was just happy to be able to fly it when it gets released and therefore happy to move it! ;)

Redmill/DSD, it is very kind of you to offer this work as freeware which is so rare nowadays. I am looking forward to flying the model and learning more about the Anson and it's history.

Slight change of plan!

Mk1 will be going live today (hopefully), the Civillian versions - although when you look at them they might as well be different aircraft entirely - are going live a little later... Perhaps next week!

Great news. Talking about the change in fuselage design, I'm puzzled as to why Avro and the RAF didn't give the aircraft a new name altogether. The Mk1 and the C.19 bear little resemblance to each other, yet they are both Ansons.
