Why am I not allowed to access the "Duck!" topic? As a member, I thought I had access to almost every topic...

Allegedly the Duck is a reversed engineered version of a payware production.
Until otherwise proven we have no choice other than to remove any files and close the relevant thread(s).

I think the key word is "allegedly".....

Having read the relevant threads over on the Dark Side forum, I feel sure this matter will shortly be cleared up as as just a simple misunderstanding & normal service will be resumed.

I don't want to say anything more, as the moderators have already had to close one thread on this topic, and I also don't want to earn myself a 'yellow card'.

Well, I should have done that before writing my post above.
Considering John's incontrovertible comparison shots over there, I know now how to evaluate the piracy accusations...

Anyway: The SOH staff's approach of "better safe than sorry" as instant action seems reasonable to me - but the next logical step should follow!

Agreed. I don't know about 'yellow cards'... but I know I'm not exactly on the good guy list either. Heck of it is, I have done really nothing to deserve it. I deleted the "Duck" from my system. If, in fact this is a legit 'freeware' model, then so be it. I will re-download it and tweak it to get it to work.

I hate downloading something posted as "freeware" and then hearing these kind of things.

There are wheels and sprockets turning down in the staff areas over this matter. I am not at liberty to say too much, but a good number of staff members are investigating the claim of piracy and working to ensure that no developer is done wrong in this matter.

If the freeware duck is truly a pirated payware then I choose NOT to download the freeware duck.

Wombat, Although i understand SOH move, I find it disastrous that the single allegation of a person claiming (i hope you have checked his id) to be a member of IcarusGold that the Duck was reverse-engineered from their payware, is enough to scare us. Some prominent members and the undersigned have had the opportunity to look at the new Duck and Icarusgold Duck and unless the new Duck is a wild unauthorized release of an Icarusgold new product (not yet advertised...BTW) none of those who have looked into it see that Icarusgold has a good arguable case here. Please keep us posted with your more thorough investigations.
 
We have sent messages to Icarus asking for proof that the freeware Duck is indeed his model before we take further action. We're trying to give him the chance to make good his claims. The ball's in his court now.

No one has any argument on either. I've a feeling we'll be seeing it land again real soon!
 
As far as I’m concerned the accused is innocent until proven guilty. So drive on with the investigation. But absent that proof, incontrovertible proof, I will not pass judgment on the issue. And the aircraft file, along with all of the tweaks I have D/L’d, will remain in a file folder on my computer until that proof is provided. If it is, all of it will be deleted. LA
