Duplicate Airports

Roger

Senior Administrator
After reading a thread at ORBX regarding ctds in PNW all of which seemed to be related to exceeding video memory capability and in turn which may have been caused by duplicate airports I decided to unleash Airport Scanner on to my FsX scenery library.
I have been plagued by freezes in PNW especially, (anything up to a minute and then the flight continues as normal) for some time and it occurred to me that as my video card has 2 gigbytes of ram on board then maybe my freezes may be what is a ctd for others.
So back to Airport Scanner...after running a scan I find I have many duplicates, mainly in PNW, however Airport Scanner doesn't show where the airports are duplicates of.
Anyone any ideas?

If you click on the airport, it should list all the bgl's that contain data for that airport, and their location so you can weed out any that are no longer required.

I noticed that as well Roger. . . .coming up with many, many duplicates and most of them in and around the ever expanding Orbyx PNW/Rockies Region.

Just an edumacated guess, but any airport that has had an elevation change will *probably* show as a duplicate. To have the elevation change recognized you must have enough data in the BGL file for FSX to process. If Airport Scanner is reading only the identifying lines within the BGL file it will *probably* show it as a duplicate.

I think the whole "duplicate airport" thing is a bit over played. 99% of the time the "duplicate" is an elevation correction bgl and I've never heard of any problem caused by these.

Thanks for the replies fellas:ernae:

I think the duplicates are mainly elevation bgls.

Well - if that isn't the cause of the FPS fluctuations in PNW...what is?

Because I have the same problem...some areas give me great frame rates..max and smooth - but flying around in certain areas...like Friday Harbor...and I get whiplash of the eyelash fluctuations from max down to

10 - 12fps

I use FTX Day/Night app to reduce the hit from lighting but thats not the cure I hoped it would be - something else is hitting the CPU

What is really baffling is why on a line from Skagit to Concrete Municipal I get terrible blurries at roughly Israel's Farm and then again just East of Concrete. Almost everywhere else in PNW I have no problems flying low and slow. The three fields mentioned above are all the full versions in my PNW. I have tried many variations of FsX.cfg entries to help the situation with limited success. I know my pc is very much middle-range these days and Jon Venema's suggestion (in the FTX forum) that we spend money to alleviate these issues is not an option for me at the moment but non-the-less PNW is where I spend most of my FsX time as it is quite beautiful when not over-taxed.

[SUP]If you're flying near the addon airports to PNW and getting blurries, that's where your system is probably loading a PR and it's not being loaded fast enough to keep up with the aircraft. Otherwise there are known 'bad' areas that have been iffy in FSX from the start. Friday Harbour, KSEA, and Anacortes are examples there.[/SUP]
