I'm using a Canon 400D (Rebel XTi) with a Canon EF 70-300 IS USM lens and a Tiffen UV filter for all of the shots above. I set the ISO to 400 so the shutterspeed was about 1/1000s with F8-11. The camera was set to 'AI focus' or 'AI servo' and I use only the center focal point in the viewfinder.
I wish all my shots look this good, but I think I can easily reduce the number of shots from 2,200 to about 1,000.
Pst production so far only resizing and sharpening using a very old Paint Shop Pro (Version 7 IIRC)
Objects moving at high speed are not that easy, especially not when they are moving in and out of the sunlight.

I use the same camera, but the difference is that your lens is much nicer than mine (I have a Tamron 70-300 Di no img stab). Do you have the img stab ON for these shots? How is the USM focus? I heard the usm is nice to have. My lenses take a while to focus, especially if the object is in motion.
 
When I bought this lens I had to pick either this one or the L-series F4 70-200mm, and I have no regrets so far. The Image Stabilizer works great for shots with a longer shutter time; I found I could do 1/30 seconds of stationary objects without problems which is great in low light or when I try to show the blurred props. The USM focus is quite fast and definitely an improvement over the standard lenses. My other lens (17-85mm EF-S) also has IS and USM and I do not feel the need to buy even better lenses at the moment.

i think it's awesome you can keep your head well enough to take those pics. at a show like that i'd have enough trouble remembering to breathe.

Well it's a hobby I guess. Still sorting through 2,200 photos to weed out the double shots, half-an-aircraft-in-the-frame shots and the not so sharp ones. Will try to get the number down to about half so it will fit on just one DVD.

A few weeks ago I was taking photos at a concert where the band of a friend of mine played. I made 250 shots in 20 minutes, but when I asked me afterwards what I thought of the music I had to admit I barely noticed it..

I know what you mean. I don't have the sophisticated equipment you have, so I gave up taking lots of pictures everywhere, and I try to capture things with my eyes and mind.
