Dutch Phantoms?

Was this supposed to be a Dutch or German repaint?

The flag on the tail is dutch (except for the small German flag, but the cross is German WWII erra. This is an insult to the Dutch. NOT funny at all!

No joke apparently, this was a real operational aircraft with a true story----

FS2004 C9 Phantom 37+93 / TW315 Twenthe. 1990 JaBoG36 in the Lower Saxony Rheine / Hopsten was closed because the runway had to be urgently replaced. The F4F Phantom stationed there had to move to the nearby Dutch Twenthe for the duration of the work. The Dutch are a funny people and so it could be a couple of jokers do not take to hijack one of the German "Air Diesel" and to put it in the service of KLU. For this purpose, the machine got a little redecoration. The tactical number "37+93" had to give way, which the F4 as full members of the 315 Sqd "TW315". The German flag on the fin had now of course the Dutch national colors soft to the purpose of the entire rudder had to serve. In addition, of course, were not allowed the squadron insignia of the "313Sqd" and the "315Sqd" are missing. Thus was the "Koninklijke Luchtmacht" in possession of a F4F Phantom II. This really well-done joke of course, was not of long duration and the Rhinokam back into the custody of the German Luftwaffe. By Frank Felix.

Simple zap marks and the cross is POST WWII (modern) Luftwaffe. This type of thing goes on all the time when aircraft spend at least one night (pilot at the Officers club and not guarding his aircraft) and especially over extended stays.

I recall one account back when both USAF and Navy F-4's were both painted gray over white. A couple of one service were "reassigned" to the other when they stayed overnight and turned their backs.

Here's an account of an RAF T.2 Harrier being repainted pink after a week of sitting idle at a French base.

I remember a Biggen Hill airshow once, watching Royal Navy Sea Harrier pilots zapping most of the Red Arrows with "fly navy" stickers :applause:

Don't worry, most Dutch are not that easily offended and our current relation with the Germans is actually quite good.

The days this F-4 was re-decorated were the days when some humour was still allowed. Nobody worried about the costs to remove the paint and everybody had a good laugh, except perhaps the pilot who had to face his comrades.

I think one of the best jokes I can remember was the Thunderstreak, repainted as a Russian Mig, which was left at the runway at the former airfield Ypenburg during the night. The guard who found it did not know the difference and raised the alarm :encouragement:.

When I arrived at Ypenburg years after this incident, people still were not able to tell about it without a huge grin om their face.
