  • Special Server Maintenance

Just when you think you have everything running some what better...

You get a message from the Hosting company. Short story they need to move us to a new server. I have been working with them to plan a good date for all concerned. Here is what we have come up with as a schedule.

    1. November 4th 17:00 -5UTC shut off the forums and start backup proceedures. During this time there will be no access to the forums or the Resource Section.
    2. November 5th Continue with Backups and download same until complete.
    3. November 6th 7:00 turn over server to hosting company to move system to new server
    4. November 7th - 8th restore backups and upgrade forum software.

If all goes well we should be back online on November 8th.

To keep you updated we will post updates on AVSIM forums.

    Thank you for your support.

Dynamic LOD Utility

From their ReadMe section on Github:

Really, really important:
  • Do not even mention, let alone try to discuss, this app on the MSFS official forums, even in personal messages, as they have taken the view that this app modifies licenced data, regardless of how harmless the way in which the app does it, and is therefore a violation of their Terms of Service and Code of Conduct for that website. If you do so, your post/personal message will be flagged by moderators and you may get banned from the MSFS official forums. You have been warned!
Important:
  • This utility directly accesses active MSFS memory locations while MSFS is running to read and set OLOD, TLOD and cloud quality settings on the fly. From 0.3.7 version onwards, the utility will first verify that the MSFS memory locations being used are still valid and if not, likely because of an MSFS version change, will attempt to find where they have been relocated. If it does find the new memory locations and they pass validation tests, the utility will update itself automatically and will function as normal. If it can't find or validate MSFS memory locations at any time when starting up, the utility will self-restrict to read only mode to prevent the utility making changes to unknown MSFS memory locations.
  • As such, I believe the app to be robust in its interaction with validated MSFS memory locations and to be responsible in disabling itself if it can't guarantee that. Nonetheless, this utility is offered as is and no responsibility will be taken for unintended negative side effects. Use at your own risk!
Errr, I think I'll give it a miss...

I'm right now struggling to comprehend the process of creating LODs having read so many words and watched all the ( edited) videos. I get lost in the explainations and "blank out". Which Blender works with which exporter, screen percentage calculations, big invisible squares, one guy says do this, another guy says do this instead, or don't do that, the sdk is vague, and I really just don't care to figure out XML editing ( I tried to get an animation to work, and loathed everything about it). Apparently you need a whole other set of skills to finish your scenery which I don't seem to have. I'm waiting for either the eureka moment, or decide if I really need to continue doing this. I'm frustrated. I am not alone either. The forums on FSDeveloper, Reditt, MS Official are full of struggles with LOD creating. Hats off to anyone trying to simplify this.

I used it extensively for a long time & it works extremely well, I would definitely recommend it & I had no adverse effects from using it or removing it at all. I recently used ChatGPT to see if I could squeeze as much out of my system for VR as I could, I run a 1070ti & a ryzen7 processor & a quest 3. I was able to get some great improvements in performance over my already reasonable settings & was chasing some micro stuttering which turned out to be AutoFPS. On a better system this would probably not be an issue but it seems that AutoFPS creates a small stutter as it adjusts, this happens at timed intervals depending on your AutoFPS settings, this is how it was picked up that it was AutoFPS & not some other app or MSFS setting. The micro stutter was tolerable but I was chasing everything I could get for maximum smoothness & performance. I no longer use AutoFPS & have MSFS LOD settings set in sim.
