On Another Planet
It is coming up and I was just wondering if any of you were going. I have gone every single year of my life and I always have a great time. They have a great line-up this year in terms of airshow performers and planes that are attending so I strongly suggest you consider going if you have the means.
 
I will one day make that pilgrimage!

Did not get to make it with my Dad before he passed so now I am even more determined. Darn economy stopped me this year.

You guys make sure you get us some good pics to share.:wavey:



Will make it out to Midland though this year for the CAF airshow or Bust!
 
I'll be there roughly 4-5 out of the 7 days. As of now, I'm looking at Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday and probably Friday. This will be my 40th year in a row! I wonder if I'll get a watch or something? I'll take good weather instead.
Living in Green Bay, we just drive back and forth (1 hr drive).
 
Ya I am 17 and I haven't missed a year yet. My dad and I go every year with my Grandpa, and usually a few of my uncles. We live in Iowa and it is about a 4 hour drive but we may be flying in this year in my dad's Stinson Voyager 108-2. I'll get some pictures and post them so you guys can look for us!
 
going twice not sure what days yet, weekdays for sure and HOPEFULLY the weather is nice, been some nasty storms comin through Green Bay and that area this year.
 
Hoping to make it! There is a certain Seafire Mk.XV, that just completed restoration early this month, and has recently confirmed that it will be in attendance - which has really got my interests peaked (it's the only version of the variant currently flying, and one of only three Seafires in the world that are flying). Hopefully the CAF's B-29 FIFI will get some test flights in soon, so that they can get it up to the show as well. I'm also very interested in that the extremely rare 1929 Hamilton Metalplane is supposed to attend the show - its first public showing outside of its former home in St. Paul, MN, since the mid 70's I believe - a plane which I've grown up seeing parked in a hangar all of my life, it will be awesome to see it at the show. Also, I'm really hoping that the Frasca-owned Flugwerk Fw-190 makes it for the show - what an impressive sight that will be - it's listed as being confirmed. I think Midwest Aero has another brand-new P-51D restoration that will debut at the show - last updates I got on it, from a few months ago, is that it was nearing completion. The aircraft is finished as "Live Bait".

It just came down that FIFI won't be able to take flight for at least two more weeks, canceling out any chance of it attending <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:smarttags" /><st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Oshkosh</st1:place></st1:City> nor the Thunder Over Michigan air shows. The blasted FAA evidently didn't agree with the number of crew-members that should be aboard, in order to conduct safe test-flights, and now says that it has to conduct an investigation to find out whether or not the CAF's request for 6-7 crew members, is justifiable. :rolleyes:

John, do you have links to more information about the Seafire XV and its restoration? I'd like to know more about it!
 
Hey Tom,
can you make out when the warbirds fly? Ive looked over the schedule a few times and cant find info that actually says that, want to go on those days and working my schedule around it.

Yeah you can. Actually I try and make out with my wife before and after the warbird show. Don't miss anything that way!

Here's the line up (Of course things could change):

Monday 7/26: Mass arrival of trainers (T-6's; T-34's; T-28's; Yak-52's; CJ-6A's)
They all come from different airports and come in crossing over each other (at different altitudes)

Tuesday 7/27: Warbirds of America expanded show (without pyro)
Plus it's "Max Effort Day" for the DC-3's/C-47's

Wednesday 7/28: Warbirds from the Vietnam War era.

Thursday 7/29: Classic Jet warbirds

Friday 7/30: "Warbirds Spectacular" accompanied by pyrotechnics.
In years past, I've found this day to be one of the better ones.

Saturday 7/31: "Warbirds Spectacular" accompanied by pyrotechnics.

Sunday 8/1: Afternoon Air Show featuring “Warbird Aerobatics”

As I said earlier, as far as the two "big" shows Friday and Saturday, I think Friday is the better day to see because sometimes many of the warbirds leave after Friday's show. Granted, Saturday's show will be good too. Just not as many birds to drool over.

MRogers, it is definitely a fascinating restoration - and not the Spitfire-design that many are used to seeing. I saw it once, several years ago, when it was still here in Minnesota with Amjet Corporation, looking very complete even then (it has been under rebuild for a crazy-long time, switching from one owner to the next - for some 3-4 decades). In 2005, it was sold to Dr. Wes Stricker, and the very talented Jim Cooper was able to finish the restoration, which is incredibly authentic and detailed, appearing exactly as it did in service.

Thanks John. The first link, Warbird registry website, seems to be down, but the second link was fine. Awesome! The seafire looks magnificent.

I believe there were other MkXVs along with MKIXs recovered from Myanmar (Burma) some time ago, so I would not be surprised if in future news emerge of another XV in restoration. The Burma XVs were Seafires originally and had their tailhooks removed. One of those MKIXs, PV270 (ex UB424), nows flies here in NZ, still has its original Merlin 70 engine. I saw it at Omaka warbirds airshow last year, it was awesome to hear and feel its power as it took off.
