Eisenhower SH-3D help required

Hi fellas,

I've been asked to do this HS-75 paint for the Virtavia Sea King..
ike554.jpg

It looks straight forward but I can't find what the arrowed text is on the floats. The shot is listed as being on board Eisenhower in 1985 if this helps. Any ex USN types able to shed any light?

I've found one more shot of 4113 taken from a front angle but the text is no clearer:dizzy:

Also.. the lower grey colour on this shot and others from different squadrons in the same period look like they've been hand sprayed.. no nice clean, straight lines where the grey meets the white. Was this so or is it a trick of the light?

Keep Back

Hope that helps. I was station with a SH-3 outfit on the Forrestal HS-3 - The gray/white line is a straight line. The crud crew (Paint crew) would use mask off the upper area and spray the gray on the lower side.

Hiya Butch,

I've considered that mate but if 554 was on Eisenhower detatchment as the info for the phot suggests.. there's no way the wording is USS EISENHOWER given the length of the word, the size of the text and the length of the text on the floats. There MUST be more shots of HS-75 helo's on that deployment but 2 is all I've found and I've been looking for days. How something so easy can turn out to be a pain in the butt!!

EDIT: Sorry Brian.. didn't see your post before I started this one!! I can't get into that page as I'm not a facebook member but I've been all around the pages of who HS-75 became and also that of Eisenhower from other links. Oh the humanities!!:(

I think it says Danger - Keep Away from the looks of this pic.

Ah Butch.. not that red arrow mate.. the one on the float sponson. In the post you made above, the 66 paint has USS Hornet in the area I have arrowed in the first picture but the wording in that shot is far too short to be USS EISENHOWER.

Re the grey..

See what I mean about the grey/white join in that shot Butch posted. It doesn't look masked at all.. the join looks feathered.

And a bit more to add.

Finding detail on HELWINGRES has not been so easy but.. looking in TSW has. TSW has a decent wiki page and it lists CVWR-20 as being on Eisenhower in '85 which ties up very nicely with the date of the two shots I posted.

Thanks again fellas. Appreciate the extra eyes:encouragement:

Does anyone have photos they can share with me of when HS-75 was stationed at WillowGrove? The link below is a group I created for Veterans and WillowGorve air museum staff members and it pertains to when they were at WillowGrove.

What is TSW? I have a feeling I'm going to be embarrassed when I find out. :biggrin-new:

Probably just a visitor to Ike. When I was on the Lexington, we'd get Intruders, Corsair IIs, C-1 Traders from various squadrons and units "visiting" usually for training purposes along with our usual "customers" from the various training squadrons.
