Email from Me

I don't remember who all is in my Email address book but I seem to have a virus or worm or something that is mailing email and I can't stop it. I had a copy of everything that was on my computer when I had XP on D:\ drive and it was using that. I deleted the address book and the outlook Express folder and it went to my C"\ drive.
So .... If you receive an Email from me that has no subject line . DELETE IT ! DO NOT OPEN IT !
I'm trying to stop this but the programs I have running can't find it. If anyone knows what it may be, please let me know.
Again ........ I'm sorry.

No need to apologize...it's not your fault. You did the right thing....informing as many people as possible of the virus/worm/nasty laden e-mail that was sent. That will prtect others from getting this nasty.

I have been highly resistant to using Outlook/Outlook Express due to the fact that it actually downloads e-mail right to your computer.....and I have heard/read that Outlook is a major access point for viruses and other nasties. I am fighting a serious infection on my brother-in-law's mom's desk top. They use Outlook....and that system is bloated with nasties....and I can't do a rebuild as the system did not come with recovery discs...it only has a utilit to create a disc image...and it is far too late to do that as the disc image would only be as infected as the hard drive. If I can't get the system cleaned up, they will have to shell out the money to buy a Win 7 Home Premiu 64-bit install package.

This is why I have another administrator user on XP. If all else fails I can delete the primary one and keep going, if from near scratch, on the other. Got rid of two crippling viruses that way and didn't have to completely reinstall XP.

I'm getting an error ID 65. It says that there is not permission to do that. I'm the Admin and the only user and permissions are turned off. It is finding a spyware on C:\, but it's not removing it.

OK JoeW, I've done a bit of Googling & found quite a bit of info on this problem. It sounds as though you have a particularly nasty & pernicious tracking cookie on yoyr system, which is also hijacking some of your system processes.

A couple of suggestions:

  1. Boot your machine into Safe Mode, and try rescanning with F-Secure.
  2. If you don't have it already, CCleaner is a very useful little tool for keeping your PC clean. Give it a go & see if it has any effect.
If none of those work then look at this thread I found, which has a VERY exhaustive explanation of a variety of methods for removing this nasty,

OK ...... Then this may be the outcome from SUPERspyware By Nick Skepetos that I had about 6 months ago. He had hacked into my computer and gotten the password for Paypal and removed close to $800 from my checking account (While I watched). I thought I had gotten rid of him with a new dri9ve and windows 7.
I will run that scan in safe mode.

Hi Joe. Don't need to apologize for what some bastard did to your computer. I was getting them for a while, but they seem to have gone away. I hope you get it squared away. I've had it with this spyware, pirates, hackers and the like. You find a tall tree, I'll bring the beer and the rope. :)

Bailing wire? I'd be worried that the bailing wire would cut through and end it all too quickly. Robe is good, rope is cheap and a good rope can be reused.

What?:icon_eek:

I'm just saying.:icon_twi:

AndyG43 ......... The only one I got to finish was CCleaner in safe mode. It removed quiet a bit considering it was ran about 2 hours before.
So far this morning I have had no illeagle emails sent.
Keep you fingers crossed.
