Hi Guys,
Just having a quick flight in the L-39 and just thought I wonder if it's possible to add an extra effect to this little gem that being some engine heat haze. Would it be possible? Just a thought. Timm

Timm, in all my time of flying formation and refueling, I don't recall ever seeing the heat haze you mention. I think the airstream just blows it away. Smoke, I have see plenty of smoke but no heat haze that I can recall.

Now, sitting on the ground with no wind, you may see it however, I don't recall it in the air.

Maybe one of the current pilots can comment. I am going back 20 plus years in my memory.

Hi John,
Thanks for that info. Having a non-aviation back ground it was just a thought. Oh well back into the cockpit for some more enjoyable flying. Timm

Hi Timm. I agree some heat haze would be nice. It's more noticeable on the ground than in the air, and you can see the distortion it causes more easily in photos than in full motion reality, but under the right circumstances it would certainly look cool. I think such an effect was on just about everyone's wish list for FS11, including my own, hehe.

To achieve a realistic effect like this would require new shaders to be written or some kind of direct manipulation of the videocard framebuffer (much like Lomac does) but this is well outside what the SDK lets you play with, and certainly beyond my coding skills atm. Some FS planes use a very subtle smoke effect to give off a hint of the same effect, but I didn't add anything like that simply because all those particles tend to pummel framerates in multiplayer quite badly when you have several jets around.

Food for thought though! :)

Mr. Mike "Lotus,"

Its still a great aircraft:applause:; hopefully we can see more features added in some future update, even if its NOT this one.
Thanks for making a outstanding Jet Trainer! :wavey:
