Engine serial numbers

I am trying to help someone run down some information on an aircraft engine. They have what is at least a partial serial number of the engine, but the problem is it's probably a Wright R-3350. If this were a Pratt & Whitney engine it wouldn't be a problem, they're still around and could likely help - but Wright went belly-up years ago and I don't know where their archives may have disappeared to. Can anyone think of suggestions on how to look up this serial number? Thanks!
