engine sounds to outside folder

O.K., I forgot, how do you link the model engine sounds to an outside folder?

This is what I have now, what's wrong =

[fltsim]
sound= C:program files\Microsoft Games\aircraft_engines\Cyclone R

[fltsim]
alias=XXXX

And for your set up OW, you should have something that looks like this:

[fltsim]
alias= C:\program files\Microsoft Games\aircraft_engines\Cyclone R

In my setup, my sound files all look like this:

[fltsim]
alias=c:\motor\XXX

I have all of my CFS2 and FS2004 sound packs in a folder (Motor) on C drive. Each sound pack is in its own folder and named according to plane or engine. Such as F4F, Lear, B25, Texan, Mavis, DB601, R-985, TwinR-985, R-1340, etc.

Every aircraft has its sound aliased to a pack in the MOTOR folder...well, there are a few Helos in my FS2004 that still have their sounds contained within their own folder structure.

Thanks, I started off using 'misc' @ the beginning but got no result & convinced myself that it was wrong (I suspect that I didn't have a space between 'microsoft' & 'games' :icon_lol:)

If I'm not mistaken (and God knows I could be, hehe), don't the sound.cfg file and the .wav files have to be in a folder named sound within the specific engine folder? As in, for example:

[fltsim]
alias=C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\aircraft_engines\Cyclone R\sound

Tarps,

Nope and yes. The files do not need to be in a SOUND folder, unless you have them installed inside an actual plane folder. The system I use, each sound pack is within a folder named for the plane or engine....F6F, B-58, Tigermoth, R-985, etc, and each sound pack has its own sound.cfg file to make it work. All of my sound pack folders are stored in a master folder named MOTOR. Within my aircraft folders, my SOUND folder only contains a Sound.cfg file, aliasing the sound for that plane to a sound pack within my MOTOR folder.

For example, my F4F:

Inside the F4F folder, there is a SOUND folder, and within that sound folder, there is a Sound.cfg file. That file looks like this:

[fltim]
alias=C:\MOTOR\F4F

This aliases my Wildcat to the F4F sound pack contained in the C:\MOTOR folder.

Inside the F4F sound pack folder inside the MOTOR folder, there is found the full compliment of sound files and the master sound.cfg to make all those files work as a sound pack.

Tarp/OW;
This is how I set up mine. Within the "engine sounds" folder I have it set up like Obio. ie; particular engine or aircraft. I did have ALL engines listed but it started to get a little complicated as I had to maintain a listing of all aircraft configurations to get the right engine to the right plane.
Easier to list the plane with the engine used. I maintain my listing with-in theater, but am contemplating moving to one general file.

Here is where I have the file ;
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Combat Flight Simulator 2\ETO\AIRCRAFT\Engine Sounds

With-in the Engine Sounds file I have a file labeled;

sound ( designated whatever you want is DB 605, F4F, etc.)

then the engine sounds there-in

In the aircraft folder it is the normal Model, Panel, Sound, Texture, but the Sound folder has in it a sound.cfg
In the sound.cfg is this;
[fltsim]
alias=ENGINE SOUNDS\WELLINGTON\SOUNDS

Works great and multiple palnes can be referred to one file. Thanks to Obio and Jaxon for guiding me on this.

This is how I set up mine...

[FLTSIM]
alias=C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\CFS2 Engines\Single\Gnome-Rhone 14N

Well, since we're all showin' what we've got, here is what my set up looks like. The green highlighted part in the address bar is what I copy into my "alias=xxxx" line. In this case my sound cfg file would read:

[fltsim]
alias=Aircraft_Engine_Sounds\4_eng_Merlin

I do the same aliasing routine with my panels, too.

I also have the engine sounds and panels in a central folder - it does save room!

As for the SceneryDB Fibber, create a folder (I did mine in the location folder for all my installs called Master_Scenery)

In it, I've included folders for Rhumba, SDC and others. All you need to do is open up your sim, go to settings, scenery, add scenery, and choose the target location which >>Does Not<< have to be in your scenedb file! It MUST have a sceney and if necessary a texture file inside of the folder name you choose, just like a folder you placed in scenedb.

I must thank Rhumba for that tip!:guinness:

That will also save lots of space!

Psullykeys;
Thanks for the comeback. I did already do that but I guess I poorly phrased the question that I believe was asked once before, before the crash. I was thinking along the lines of a central runways, world or ships, etc. folder and how the game would call on the folder.

Hi OW,

you probably figured it out already, but from what I see above, the mistake is in the statement and not in the subfolder structure.

You wrote:

[fltsim]
sound=

while it should be:

[fltsim]
alias=

You can point at any subfolder you like in the sound.cfg file, as long as the path is correct, CFS2 does not care and your aircraft soundfiles work correctly.

I hope this helps you.

Cheers!

The best system I know

It's the one created by Jaxon. He even aliases models using a system of points and bars. At home I'll show my variation that includes a gauges LIB!

Cheers
