English Electric Lightning F3 X released

Real & FSX - XP696

Hi Guy,
First off Thanks Zolt for the great texture. After doing some searching I came across this shot so I thought why not see if I can do the same in FSX, well here is the result. Had to change the brake chute to the red. Regards Timm
Just one small question is there any plans in having the option in taking out the pilot whilst in the Parking state?

(PS How can I get full screen shots showing instead of these small ones?)

Great chute!

Yes! It would be nice if the pilot would go away, after parking!

And I use this site http://imgur.com/

Hi Guy,

Sorry no , to do that would mean a tremendous amount of work creating a fully viable seat, straps and cockpit interior , when all you want to do is hide it and put the pilot in !

Cheers

Here's my offering. XM172 in the mid '60's with 226 OCU at RAF Coltishall, when they used the 'shadow' designation of 145 Sqdn. and sported the Knights Templar cross and red/white spine and tail. She now resides in a garden in Cumbria, having escaped the axe at least twice now!

In 1970 226 OCU changed its shadow designation to 65 Sqdn. XM215 was the only Lightning I ever remember photographing, at an air day at Upper Heyford around 1972 I think.

The 'shadow' designation was in recognition of the fact that 226 OCU was fully combat-capable; the squadrons were long-since deactivated as front-line units.

New Brake Chute

Hi,
Thanks Zolt for the link. Works fine. OK Here is a shot of my new Brake chute for the Lightning. Just gives is a bit more colour.

Indeed, the 'shadow' number being the one that would be added to the order of battle if/when (shadow numbers are still in use)
the balloon goes up in lieu of the relevant 'OCU' moniker.

Just got her today and oh man, what a blast!
one of those cool effects, I've found, is on the takeoff roll how the radar bounces up and down from the bumps in the runway. Tied in with Accu-feel, its very immersive.

Now I need a better PC to keep up with all the hot jets I've been flying lately

Tied in with Accu-feel, its very immersive.

I turned off some of function of Accu feel ("in the air", stayed only with drag effect & ground) for this model. Noticed some strange effects, too big turbulences with hight speed and strange noise.

I did the same. I found some wild turbulence issues with Accufeel turned on, so I turned off the 'in the air' portion, but left the ground portion active. I've still found some large turbulence issues with ASN, but I haven't tuned that yet to see what effect it has.

The turbulence that ASN adds in the form of aircraft wake makes refueling from a tanker just slightly deadly, should you venture anywhere near where ASN thinks such wake should be.

Same problems with ASN, I very like ASN but sometimes it has a strange effect up and down ;).

I would recommend reading Richard Pike's "The LIGHTNING BOYS True tales from pilots of the English Electric Lightning" ISBN-13:9781908117151. It's an absorbing read detailing the idiosyncrasies of living with this aircraft.

Ian
