Eric 'Winkle'Brown's Airacobra

On the real aircraft that is my guess. I attach the model if baldy want it. I do have to apply the tailhook to a few of the LODs but that is quick clone and attach work.

I also got the model for the P-39Q done. Right now I'm using Model Convert X as paint preview as I'm making a Q texture.

P39 tailhook

Hi Allen

I'd appreciate that -- an mdl file which includes the hook or if it's easier a copy of the source file ( FSDS ) and I'll make one myself -- you'll find my email address in any of my stuff

thanks in advance

Allen uses GMax so not everything would make it in a FSDS cross over. If I remember correctly. maybe its the other way around. Either way its gmax. LOL :biggrin-new:

I'll attach the model and std OH texture.

Texture re-naming is required.
p39d_airacobra_t.bmp = p39d_L_airacobra_t.bmp
p39d_airacobra_r.bmp = p39d_R_airacobra_t.bmp
p39d_airacobra_d.bmp = p39d_L_airacobra_d.bmp
p39d_airacobra_b.bmp = p39d_R_airacobra_d.bmp

[TailHook]
tailhook_length=6 ;(feet)
tailhook_position = -17.511, 0.0, -0.452 ;(feet) longitudinal, lateral, vertical positions from datum
cable_force_adjust = 1.0

Eric Brown was late to the party. On the same day and on the same ship as the Mitchell, a modified P-51 was also tested. From the ship's log
NOV 15, 1944 1220hrs
Lt. Robert M. Elder, USN, made the first carrier landing of P-51 type fighter plane #414017, followed by three landings and four takeoffs all successful.

Before we get carried away with who's first or best let's remember that the Royal Navy and the US Navy have always cooperated fully with info and developments to their mutual benefit and long may it continue

Thanks Allen -- it's not really fit for uploading as greening out of the wing wheel doors leaves gaping edges

GCS0019.jpg

a better solution would be for me to kiss up to you to do another mdl deleting the wing doors ( and open the tailhook a bit ) but that would be imposing on your good nature so I won't even ask

P-39Q Airacobra.zip

A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 2 Aircraft - American

Description: The most numerous production version of the P-39 was the Q that replaced the four .30 wing guns with two under wing .50 machine guns. This change was like by most US pilots but Russians like with past models of the P-39 removed them as well.

Features many animated parts. Breaking parts plus damage texture logics as well. Model is Multi LOD with working virtual cockpit. Skin template is the textue folder for your painting pleasure. You will need a program that can read .PSD to use it.

To check it out, rate it or add comments, visit P-39Q Airacobra.zip
The comments you make there will appear in the posts below.

Yes, the RN pilots perfected carrier landings of the Corsairs.
The RN came up with my favorite USMC ground attack fixed wing aircraft the Harrier.
The RN came up with metal carrier decks.

I am a real fan of the cooperation of our two navies.

PS

And should I dare mention that the USMC gains our heritage from the Royal Marines?

Yeah don't mess with a Marine. Ours or the RN.

Awesome work Allen. I'll give the Q a run on my days off.

I still have to do the "long nose" P-39D-1/P-400 model that used a 20mm cannon. Sopwith Chameleon already did a skin for the P-39D-1 Air-A-Cutie that should work fine. I have pull 50 HP from the engine and add 33 more gals to the fuel tanks.

Sopwith Chameleon also has some others that cover Brit Airacobra Mk.IA and US P-400.

EDIT:

Got the P-39D-1 done. It will work just fine as the Brit Airacobra Mk.IA and US P-400 with a quick rename. Sopwith Chameleon P-39D-1 Air-A-Cutie works just fine.
