Exploding Airplanes

Hi All! I've installed Rami's Malta Spitfire and made it up to mission 5. When I load mission 5, Intercept, all the planes in the flight explode, leaving 3 beautiful gaping holes in the end of the runway. I've tried substituting other planes but the same thing happens.

Does anybody have any ideas on this? Thanks:jump:

I checked it out & the problem seems to be with the mission itself. I'm not really sure what the actual problem is @ this point though.

Thanks for getting back to me on this. I thought the same but I don't know enough about the mission builder to try and correct things and am not foolish enough to bumble my way around and make things worse.

I'll drop a note to Rami on this and see what he says. Thanks again oldwheat.

Cheers:salute:

I believe they're all sitting on the ground, as there are 3 gaping holes left after the explosions; but the explosions happen so quickly right after the sim loads, I can't tell if they're inside each other's bubbles or not. The explosions LOOK to be about 1 plane length apart. I don't even get a chance to start my engine. I first thought they'd been bombed or something but that doesn't make a lot of sense.

I just read Skybolt's first post on the Aces High post just below mine in the queue. He mentions some of his missions break right after engine start. My situation is similar but a little different....I don't even get to start my engine....the explosions happen as soon as I get the "press the 'e' key to start engine" dialogue.

I'm wondering if it's the same problem.

Sounds like either a conflict between your terrain mesh and the airstrip elevation or the collision bubble as Ghostrider hinted. Try to fly the same model in FF from that same location as a single player, then set up two test missions from that location - one as a solo pilot and another with wingies. If solo works in FF and the solo mission, its the collision bubbles. If you explode in every scenario - whether solo or with flight, its the mesh vs airstrip elevation. You may have to write a flatten switch to eliminate this conflict.

10-4 will do. That'll keep my nose down for a wee while. Wanna thank you guys for your terrific input. Don't know where I'd be wit'out it.

Will try that and keep you posted.

Cheers! I'm on it!:running:

Just tried it solo with the same result. Something is ringing a bell here. A couple of years back I had the same problem. Turned out it was a problem with the YAS model. I emailed the plane designer and he sent me a model fix for the exploding spit but that was a couple of HD crashes ago and two computers back. I no longer have the fix file.

I'm going to try a substitute aircraft using Morton's Utility and see what happens.

'K just tried that and used one of Bruno's Spits instead. Worked better.......I didn't blow up but my wingmen did. Any ideas guys?

It looked to me as if one of the wingmen was attempting to load in the same location (or too close) as the player aircraft.

Seems like to me as well. Just to make sure we're on the right track here, I'm gonna go back into the MB and see what I can adjust there......fewer planes or better spacing, though I know that the YAS spits can have problems all on their own.

Is there a way to adjust the collision bubble?

Well, what better way to get yer li'l feet wet with MB than to throw caution to da winds and dive in!:bump:

I adjusted the mission to fly one of Bruno's Spits and flew it solo.......no problem whatsoever....I can live with that!

So-o-ooo-o-o-o Genl'men.......ah'm off inta da wild blue yonder, fighting the good fight! Thanks for all your help.....very much appreciated:salute:

Those explosions happens in sev. missions+campaigns---mostly by using other player-planes--, but not allways, when fly them 2 or more times. Often it's helpfully to press "S" before engine
start, (order to wingmen: "More distance"!) :bump:

You Betcha

...Is there a way to adjust the collision bubble?...

Ivan Hsu's MkMDLC Ver 2 is the best way to do it - standardized collision bubble numbers [for ME, anways] are shown below:

P-51 / Spitfire Sized planes: 3 to 4

C-47 / Smaller Bombers: 5 to 6

PBY / B-17: 7 to 9

Anything larger: 10 to Maximum of 16

In my experience, these numbers let you run right up on the enemy [or make a VERY close head to head pass] w/o exploding... Your tastes may vary. You can find MkMDL here at the Outhouse.

Good Hunting
